8/10 gameplay ruined by a 4/10 story and 7/10 music.

The writing is beyond piss. IF you like turn based RPGs then this combat systesm will entertain you, but you will not enjoy the story, and it will have you ripping your hair out as you lose brain cells.

this game is worth max 30 euros, not a cent more.

Still more functional than a bethesda game on launch. Unironically a fun game. The Yasuke sound track was fire!

Check points would be great. Can't wait for the sequal.

This game has trumendous potential and the multiplayer is enjoyable. Balance issue aside, the game suffers from major performance issues. I don't exactly have a spacestation on my desktop, but its not a budjget PC either with a nvidia rtx 4050 6gb gpu, intel i7 12th gen 14 core processor with 2,300 Mhz and 16 gb RAM it really should have better framerate in lategame scenarios when i have everything set to low. Unless these issues are adressed i fear i dont see myself playing this game.

I'll say the same thing i said about Re7, this isnt a bad game its just a bad Resident Evil game. It tires desperately to emulate what made Re4 great and the result is only so-so. The second debut of no ones favorite resident evil protagonist Ethan Winters struggles to keep the players interested enough to play. The gameplay switched between tolerable and right out tedious. The start is way too erratic and hard without any clear indication of what you need to do inorder to progress the story.
Weapon varaity is sorely lacking and the fact that you character runs like in a dream (very slowly) is frustrating.

The only time this game comes close to feeling like a Resident Evil game is the very brief castle/mansion section.

The story is strange and convoluted. If you remove the two instances of finding the umbrealla corp logo in the game world, as well as removing Chirs Redfield as a ingame character, then you wouldn't know it was a resident evil game. Could as well be the next Alone in the Dark of Silent Hill game or any generic survial horror shooter.

To be clear i did not finish the game. After 3 hours of running around in the factory level i was just burnt out with the game. That section just dragged on and on. The scrapfield mecha monster battle broke me. Like wtf does this have to do with Resident Evil? I quit the game after you were given control of Christ Redfield and im probably not goign to finish it. The POV is way too narrow.

The game pads the playtime alot with making you backtarack from a place to another. This makes Ethans running speed very annoying. As a side note, you can upgrade your HP, block power and run speed from the merchant. The speed upgrade is BARELY noticable. Like were talking a 10% movement speed increase at most. Yet you need to do alot of backtracking and exploration to get it.

The Boss fights are the low point of this game. Bland, boring, unimaginative, tedious.

TLDR: The game is barely enjoyable enough to keep playing. Graphics are excellent. Story not good. If you like survival horror youll like this game, as long as you forget its supposed to be a Resident Evil game. If you can get it below 30 euros give it a try.

6/10, probably not going to finish it much less replay it.

I'm a fan of the original RE4.

This was a faithful remake of the original. I was pleased that this wasnt just a 1 to 1 overhaul with improve graphics. The story is somewhat retconned and rewritten to make more sense and clear up plot holes from the original.

The overall envoirment stays more of less the same, with some extra areas either added or replacing old ones. In short they kept the good things and improve on the bad ones from the original (some boss fights were reworked or nerfed to make it less annoying to play, for example the first El gigante was far easier to beat than in the orginial Re4, even on hardcore difficulty). Overall bossfights are less tidious but the difficulty dealing with ordinary enemies has gone up.

The game employs a physics system adding delay and weight to your movements. This is annoying but also lends to the survival aspect of the game. This can lead to frankly unfair situations where Leon is simply stunlocked untill you die, as you have to wait for Leon's wrighting animation to finish before you can access your briefcase and heal.

There is a high risk of softlocking yourself in the game, especially in the later stages on the island and halfway through the castle, as ammo and healing are very sparce. For whatever reason they didnt rework the part of the game where ashley needs to turn two cranks inorder to raise a bridge. You HAVE to use ranged weapons inorder to defend her, of which there are very few ammo. This was a problem in the orignial as well and i feel like they should have somehow reworked this part. Even with the bolt thrower you run out of ammo, and the bolt thrower is woefully inept at taking on several enemies at once.

My biggest grievence with the remake is by far the voice actors. Aside form Leon and Ashley all of the voice actors are worse compared to the original RE4, ESPECIALLY ADA WONG! Ada sounds like she has a flue constantly and the voice actor puts in NO effort! Do better CAPCOM!

Overall a good game, 8/10, not worth buying at fullprice, but if you can get it for below 30 euros definetly go for it!
