The aesthetic is amazing and if you're a spy story or retro tech nerd you'll absolutely love it.

However, there are some grating issues with the story. Even if you do everything right you're still ♥♥♥♥♥♥ in the end, and in a very unlikely way that is hard to suspend disbelief for. I mean, how the hell does the building security be so incompetent as to let a man escape, murder THE DIRECTOR, murder a senior supervisor, and murder an operator? I mean, that's just absurd! I get they're alluding to it being because of a conspiracy where Security allowed it to happen but it's just too over the top. And then the fact that absolutely everyone remotely involved with the situation dies is leaning so hard into the tropes of the genre that it's about to knock them over.

The game itself is the opposite of life fuel because of the path the story inevitably follows with no opportunity for the player to avert it but at the same time can be considered a kind of high art for that same reason. The Operator perfectly captures the sense of hopelessness a person would feel when going up against "THEM" from all your favorite Alex Jones conspiracies.

The MKULTRA program holds a special place in my heart, and the nods to it in this game were like reading through the project files.

Speaking of reading through the project files, a list of all 149 currently known sub-projects has somehow made its way onto The Internet Archive as a PDF file named "MKULTRA Briefing Book List Of Subprojects With Brief Descriptions January 1976"

I thought Rambley was only an adult film actor from the famous website E621. I had no idea that he was also a super-intelligence with Skynet tier capabilities. As far as the game itself goes, meh. However it is an excuse to hang out with my favorite porn star slash future AI overlord.

The servers are just awful. List of rules the length of your arm. Get kicked out of vehicles for no reason. Can't recommend this game.

Very few games actually make me feel even the slightest hint of my childhood nostalgia anymore. This is one of them. It's worth a buy. I like the weapon upgrade system.

Me and hundreds of thousands of Helldivers refused to even download the new update. Days later, SONY capitulated and rolled it back. Now, having never downloaded any update, I can play the game. Why? Because they rolled it back. They straight up reverted the branch. BOW DOWN OR BE ANNIHILATED SONY CORPORATION!!! FOR DEMOCRACY!

Can't presently recommend it even though it runs mostly (but not entirely) fine on my RTX 4090 and 20 core CPU.

1: You can't sprint at an angle. Only forward. This is made worse by the fact your character has some kind of neck condition that prevents them from turning their head too far. Apparently nobody zig-zags while running in combat. You know, like, to move between cover. Someone has told me "you can't/wouldn't do that in real life" and that person is incorrect.

2: Enemies will tank a magazine of pistol ammo before dying half the time. If you only have a pistol, may as well use it on yourself.

3: Clearing corners is like being submerged in molasses. Do you want to move while leaning? Well screw you! Somebody decided that's unrealistic. Somebody who has only seen corners get slow cleared and heard "It's hard to walk while aiming in real life" and assumed that means a highly trained PMC is just incapable of doing it at a speed of more than 0.0001 KM/year. I can clear corners faster than that in real life and I definitely have less training than these people are supposed to.

4: You become hungry and thirsty at incredible speed. Thirst I can understand, but who gets that hungry after an hour? Who can even fit that much food in their stomach?

5: The multi-tiered system where you need to pay for a bigger inventory is scummy ♥♥♥♥ they jacked from Tarkov.

This game is quite interesting but there's two prime reasons I can't recommend it.

1: Sword fighting is ♥♥♥♥. It just is.

2: Pirates only seem to follow you and never other vessels. It's annoying.
