It's a Metroidvania released in 2024, that feels like it was from the 2010s.
BUT WAIT!
That's not necessarily a bad thing. Frontier Hunter perfectly captures the Metroidvania from that era, the equipment, the loot drop, the RPG system. It is a nice throw back, a nice little bit of nostalgia without having to play the exact same titles we grew up with.

If I have to be critical about it. Is that the developers could've / should've stayed with the detailed pixel art style, instead of utilizing the 2.5D style, which... Was around the time the gaming industry was tampering out Metroidvania games, and started pushing 2.5D that doesn't really appease anyone (Pure subjective opinion).

That aside, there really aren't much to complain about.
Pick it up on sale at a 61% off (CDN$13), hard to argue with it.

Incredible art style, insanely difficult.
I grew up with Metal Slug, and Contra and those were easier than this.

It's a short game, cleared it with most challenges completed in 5-ish hours.
Usually, that's a bad thing, but hold on!

You ever finished watching John Wick quadrilogy, and wished there was a shooter game that's just like John Wick? (I'm not talking about that ♥♥♥♥♥♥ turn based John Wick Hex game)

Well needn't look further. Suit for Hire is practically that. You can choose from top-down or third person (Yea I know, FPS would be cool) From timely dodging shots and melee hit, countering attacks, or turn your enemy into a meat shield, this game's got it. Oh, we've got MaxPayne "BulletTime" and "Diving" mechanic as well.

To sweeten the pot - It's got maps from the John Wick movies, you will know it when you see it!
But the fun doesn't stop there, it's even got maps from CounterStrike, and Mirror's Edge! (I'm sure there are a few more references I'm not getting)

While the experience have been great, no doubt about it; I'm not entirely sure if I would've picked this up full price. There aren't much solid replayability once you've completed the challenges for each specific maps. While you have 6 different primary weapons that have their own unique quirks to choose from, it doesn't alter or offer that much substaintial reasons to replay the game.

So decide if you want to support the devs by getting full price, or pick it up on sale for a more reasonable transaction.

Highly addicting. Not many games got me staying up through the night.
This one, did it effortlessly.
For $10 something, this is an absolute steal.

Does shows PvE Extraction Shooter could be incredibly fun when well made.
I absolutely did not expect to enjoy this game as much as I do.
So far, it've only been solo experience, I imagine Co-Op would be even a bigger blast.

A perfect piece of theatre, designed for mature audience.
Balances drama and comedy, made me laugh, slap knees, to shed a tear.

I came for the shooter, the puzzles, the post apocalyptic bio horror aesthetics.
But stayed for the story, the lore, the dynamics between characters.

The DLCs completed the story flawlessly, and ended it with a perfect chef kiss.
One of the most underrated piece of our time.

It is one of the games that you'd look fondly back one afternoon, cool summer breeze, on a beach somewhere.

It's "metroidvania" but with a very unique concept.
Co-Op and Solo-able, with two distinct characters with long and short range combat styles.

For around $13CDN I'd say it's worth the grab if you're into side scroller genre alone.
But this title does not seem to posses any inventory, as in - No equipment to change out, no different weapons, sub-weapons, different skills (At least not in anyway the UI suggests)

I will still give this game a thumbs up, but I've refunded this product simply because it's not something I was expecting. I was hoping for an upgrade / evolution to the existing "metroidvania" genre / format. Gal Guardians: Demon Purge did great with adding the Co-Op element, even when Solo. But it's not enough.

It's not bad, it's just not worth the price tag

Purchased it on sale (-25%) for $40CDN

The good thing? "Friend's Pass", thank god we don't have to pay a total of $80 just to play together.
One person owning the game is enough.

The bad thing? Game is hella short. Especially if you do all the exploring and what not on the first go around.
$40 something for a 3~5 hour game with practically zero replayability, in this economy?

The horror aspect also feels drastically tuned down, to the point I feel it's slightly disingenuous to have it in the tag, thriller? Maybe. Horror? That's a stretch. It lacks a lot of the "What the ♥♥♥♥..." feeling that Little Nightmares 1 and 2 offered me.

Supposededly the developers wanted to create new original IP, rather than continue working on Little Nightmare, but the product REANIMAL, is rather... Well, if I had to pretend I have no prior knowledge, I'd say it's a game made by someone not as professional, but a massive fan that wishes to recreate Little Nightmare, but failed at capturing the essence of it.

I have yet to try Little Nightmare 3, and if REANIMAL is supposed to be the superior product, oh boy.

Verdict: Pick it up on sale at -50~60% Sale. Unless you have "♥♥♥♥ you money", otherwise, just go watch a tolerable Let'sPlayer to stream this. I sure as hell would love to spend the $40CDN on some other games.

It's a Boss Rush mode, with... "Story".
There are some "quests" with "hidden" items scattered throughout the map.
That's... About it.
NG+ gets more and more punishing, difficulty ramp up etc.

Bought it w/ -90% sale ($3CDN), money well spent I guess?
No way in hell I'd pay the full price for this though.

Note:
The game shows that a lot of work, and potentially love put into it.
But the gameplay loot just isn't my cup of tea, I've played all the Souls series from FromSoftware, and their product is much more entertaining than Eldest Souls.

The game doesn't deserve a thumbs down. But it's not entirely a thumbs up material neither...

It's a fun little game that matches its price tag.
However. Your success on the run, heavily relies on RNG.
And a few specific "artifacts" can essentially make or break your run.

It has plenty of room to improve. But for $12CDN, you get what you paid for.

Bought this because outfit cute + badass.

But I suspect DLC outfits doesn't retract visor in scenes (It's not a big deal, but I prefer the immersion)
Played with the skins for the first 3 hours of the game, then went back to default outfit.

So unless you don't care about the aforementioned reason, and have expendable cash, go for it.
Otherwise, I feel like you'd be paying $20CDN only for the Shelter BGM (Which are great).
