I had a bad feeling about that game and from what I got to see I was not proven wrong. Coming from V1 with a couple hundred hours of experience back in the day I was curious to see what's new in Ubersreik. Unfortunately not too much...

Vermintide 2 set me back into Nov. 2009 when L4D turned into L4D2. A similar situation here. It's the same game all in all and from my first impressions it's rather for the worse than for the better with only minor additions and improvements on the core gameplay. Move - Slay - Wait - Wait + Slay - Move - Big Guy - Wait... the same old story.
While graphically it's all detailed and eyecandy and whatnot the game is lacking innovation, atmosphere, depth and soul. The generic pathing of the beautiful surroundings isn't helping. Invisible walls and barriers wherever you go which appear to be absurd in many situations. There's nothing to explore once you got known to the maps / locations of grims and tomes. I can already see it becoming old and repetitive quickly.
The combat mechanics force you to adjust your gameplay to the held weapons' attributes (fast Attack, wide swing, etc.). Instead of focusing on a set of fixed abilities and skills that you aim to achieve mastery on you may find yourself spamming M1 because that is what your weapon is good at. Your hammer decides over the direction it will chose to go - not you!
There's a lot of DLCs and cosmetic upgrades to buy if you want the full package. In the long run the game is all about RNG bless you with trinkets, accessoires or weapons. Over and over and over. Again.
I give in that maybe I didn't spend enough time and have judged too early. I'm just not feeling it anymore after just 2 hours. 2% Motivation to even launch the game again. The joy in slaying rats has died with this game where is just too much V1 inside. Hell, even some voicelines were just taken over. Moving on :skaven:

If you got some friends to pair up with there's no regrets!
If you don't there is a good chance this game will turn you into a misanthrope.
Singleplayer as last strawpull works!

edit: The addition of "Artifacts" made the public multiplayer mildly enjoyable to say the least.

An unfinished mess. Lacks polish aswell as basic standards such as input determination.
In order to use my gamepad I was told to unplug all other USB devices (incl. mice + kb).
The repetitive combat is unresponsive and clunky as hell. Abandoned in Sep.2017.

Ever wondered why you love your girlfriend even though you hate her so much?

I've got similar feelings for this game...

(Edit: Still valid in 2019)

On the first look this game felt like cheap rubbish. I'm so glad that i gave it a chance.. it has become one of my favourites!
It's frustrating and devastating in the beginning. You'll find yourself ragequitting and hating on the game because it seems so freaking impossible, unfair and totaly imbalanced! Now guess what, you'll improve as you keep playing. You will handle the impossible at some point and look back with a grin as you're figuring out the game's depth and master it's mechanics.

Nuclear Throne is on point. None if the items, weapons or characters are useless. It offers a healthy challenge and rewards you with a feeling of actually having achieved something when something was achieved. You can feel the hours of work these developers put into it for balancing it out and once you did the game will be with you for the rest of your time filling out the empty hours when there's nothing else to enjoy. Just buy it, there's no regrets!
