VG music that is similar to other VG or non-VG music
If you know video game music that reminds you of a certain track / song that may or may not originate from a video game, you're welcome to post it here. :)

Some guidelines:
  • None of the tracks is an official arrangement/remix of the other track, and there are notable differences
  • Both tracks are from different series
  • The composers for both tracks are different persons Tracks by the same composer are ok if there are very notable similarities

If you have suggestions to improve the guidelines, you're welcome! :)

Edit: Initially, this thread was only for comparisons between VG and non-VG music, but has been extended to include comparisons between different VGMs.

Anyone remember that song from the first Macbook Air launch trailer? (It's a cute song too. :skyecute:)

Kuro no Danshou: The Literary Fragment (PC-98) - BGM 02
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5vpeQTnP84M

Rise of the Triad - Chant
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2f9Y3lVkSDE

Both games were released around the same time (mid 90's, around 1994-1995) on different sides of the globe (one game is Eastern, the other is Western) with different focuses (one is an VN eroge, the other is a violent FPS full of "LUDICROUS GIBS") and yet they somehow have one track that is similar to each other (especially in the basslines).

Okay, I think I'm going to take a break now...

Dance of death

[Super Mario Galaxy] Dino Piranha

The stage 4 midboss theme from QP Shooting: Dangerous!! is similar to the beginning of the True Last Boss music in eXceed 3rd - Jade Penetrate Black Package:

The QP Shooting: Dangerous!! track is royalty-free and can be found here: Loop#8[www.senses-circuit.com]

An older comparison from another topic:

[House of the Dead 2] A.M.S. Agent
https://youtu.be/0pVhtqkblqw

...is similar to the following track from the Matrix OST, as Blueskates remarked:

[The Matrix] Spybreak!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iCBL33NKvPA

As I mentioned, the repeating bass line can be found in the Base theme from contra:

[Contra] Base theme
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O5ZVP5UWiH8

Speaking of The Matrix, Clubbed to Death is similar to a certain BGM from the original Doom soundtrack:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pFS4zYWxzNA

[Doom] Suspense (E1M5)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FMex4f8cwEY

----------------------------------------

Another comparison that I mentioned in the Announcements section a while ago:

The beginning of

[DoDonPachi Daifukkatsu] The Battle Was Just ''To Continue that Future''
https://youtu.be/o4rDse8Ebfo

...is similar to the beginning of:

[Phantom Breaker] Stochastics Time (Tokiya's theme)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4o5R-A5Vl1U

P.S.: Sorry for the repeats, but I like to have those comparisons in a single place where I can conveniently access them

Here's a well known comparison:

Ys: The Oath in Felghana - A Searing Struggle

Not sure if plagiarism should count, but stuff like this was why Kenji Yamamoto's music was replaced in Dragon Ball Kai. Kenji even ripped off Stratovarius for the Budokai games.

To me, that's the "Super Locomotive" theme, from the arcade game. :)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J6ee5KzI9NA

I played the C64 home version of that game more often, though. That version plays some Jean Michel Jarre instead:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cLQQlQl2G40

...though my favourite C64 version of Jean Michel Jarre music was in this game Trollie Wallie:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=---XJtuZqqI
It cycles through a few of his tunes and also the tune "Popcorn". And was a little terrifying.

I'm definitely interested in plagiarized tunes, as long as the music is not exactly the same (i.e. not the same record).

That intro ^^

[Jets'n'Guns] Flames of Fire

Soilwork: Steelbath Suicide

Well, it's a simple guitar riff, so it's not surprising that there are similar ones. ;)

Well, here's one of the most blatant examples I can think of from the Ninja Gaiden arcade
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IcUgs18QB4o
which of course is taken from
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5s7_WbiR79E

and while on Doom https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BSsfjHCFosw
and

The first ~45 seconds from

[Super Mario Galaxy] Purple Comet

...remind me of:
