Are Steam gems slowly becoming worthless?
Is anyone else noticing how fast the Steam gem market is falling?

I remember when 1,000 gems actually meant something.
Now it's like… everyone is selling huge bundles of gems and card packs for almost nothing.

Daily giveaways, bots dumping inventory, inflated supply... and the value keeps dropping.

Do you think gems will ever be relevant again?
Or is this just the Steam version of hyperinflation?

Curious to hear your thoughts. Especially from traders who’ve been around for a while.

Where exactly do you see these cheap gems being sold? Their price just keeps going up on Steam market until summer sale when people craft badges and gets lots of gems.

A month ago: 0.37-0.38€. Now: 0.42-0.43€

What the hell are you talking about? Sacks of gems are just becoming more and more expensive, I don't see them becoming worthless any time soon.

Yeah, you’re right about the Steam market price — it’s actually going up a bit.

But I was mostly talking about gems being super cheap in trading groups, Discords, and fast bot trades. Like, people are selling huge amounts just to get card packs quickly.

So maybe it’s not about the official price, but how easy it is to get gems outside the market. It kinda feels like they’re everywhere now.

Could be different in each region too. Maybe € prices are holding better than $?

Fair enough, maybe I overstated it 😂
Market prices are higher than I thought — but still, in some trade servers gems feel super cheap.

Maybe it's just a different scene than the official market.
That's just trading the same gems around and around, not creating new gems. Steam has nerfed card trading related things over the years making there be less and less of new gems so the price goes up. It's not related in any way to some rich people and active traders having millions of gems. If someone overpays for a booster pack that just means they can make a big profit by selling the foil set etc.

well people use gems to buy in exchange of steam game keys from bundles. It's some sort of currency ig.

Are they selling the gems there for actual money? If they are trading that just means the price of the items they are trading for the gems has gone up more than the price of gems. Simple as that, all about the law of supply and demand.

Makes sense now — I hadn’t thought about the gem supply shrinking over time.
Appreciate the insight!

Yeah true, gems kinda turned into Steam’s underground currency lol
Didn’t expect people to be trading them for keys though 👀
Think he's just Award farming.

I've seen worse.
Fair points — I’ll admit I worded it poorly. I was mostly referring to how gems feel less “valuable” in trading groups where sets are being flipped fast.

Not award farming btw, just started a conversation. Appreciate the correction!

Set's aren't any near as cheap as they've been in the past either.

gems actually doubled in price from the lowest point, and unless steam does something it will double in price again in 1-2 years, or maybe even faster.
