Random Booster pack, what's the deal?
I don't really care about the cards but, how those random boosters works?
I'm asking now because I just received a 3 cards Subnautica pack today .
( A game I played for seven hours and the last time was in March 2016)

And during my time on Steam ( been here a while now), I think I got 2 packs total? including this one?

It's not a rant at all, I'm just curious if somebody know more than the vague explanation you can find on the steam page.

Own a game and have all card drops received.

How does the drop mechanism work?
When ever someone anywhere in the community crafts a badge for a specific game each eligible player gets an RNG to determine whether they receive a drop or not. You do not have to be friends with the one crafting the badge of the game in question.

How does one increase their probability of receiving a booster pack?
According to Valves official blog post on that topic you will receive a slight increase in your chances for each 10th Steam Level. That bonus is additive however no one can 100% confirm the value behind it.

Another thing is of course how many eligibilities you have collected - alias how many games you have.

I once created a formula based on empiric "research" and I came up with this...
(1 + Level / 10) * 0,01008 * NumberOfEligibleGames
... to calculate your probability of receiving ANY booster pack on ANY day. So far it had been quite accurate for me. However I guess the level bonus is hard-capped.

The higher your Steam level is and eligible games you have (games that you collected all card drops) up the chance of you getting a booster pack, they are random if you get one with the rest of the people that are able to get one when someone crafts that game badge.
The author of this thread has indicated that this post answers the original topic.
