DO NOT TRADE PERSON-TO-PERSON! Fake "CS:GO" items (& fakes from other games) are being circulated and are impossible to distinguish from the real thing

Multiple shovelware developers using Steam Direct are creating fake items for CS:GO, DOTA2, and TF2 that are very difficult to differentiate from real ones. Do not accept any trade offers until Valve has issued a fix and public statement.


The scammers have figured out a way to make it impossible to tell the difference between a real and fake item. They create a game and then change the icon and name to mimick the game they are using scammed items with.

The only advice for right now is to be super careful who you are trading with or to just not trade at all until Valve do something to fix this issue.

Yes, it's known that in the past few days dota2, cs:go andTF2 has had fake inventory game items added to random asset flip games that added the "steam inventory system" to their games and copied high tier items used in scamming.

You can trade just use your head and look at the appID # for those original games and make sure they are from the games you want to trade, no need to not trade.

According to that Reddit thread they can change the name of the game that its tagged as.

Even so you can still check the appID like I said, if you want/need to trade check the steam or web browser trade before accepting on mobile.

some guy tried scamming me today. he was gonna give me 2 taunts (kazotsky kick and yeti punch) for only 2 scout craft cosmetics. it was so obvs it was a scam, the person's inventory was private too. then he accused ME of scamming him. He tried banning me from that server :P
