i was badass riddance on the old tfc server. as the name implies, i was 13. yaypit was some of the most fun i ever had playing video games and it's been difficult trying to recapture that same spirit of goofy fun on experimental maps with other games. there really will not be another yaypit.

This server (HL2DM) was the height of my childhood and the root of my drive to understand how things work and how I can modify them to make them work for me. In other words, this server sparked my passion for coding and game development which to this day still exists. I have a strong memory of idolizing shyotl and relentlessly asking him how 2 code haha. My username at one point was even "Shoytg" which was indeed a rip-off of Shyotl. I was an annoying little shit who got on everyone's nerve more often than not and often paid the price, but regardless this server holds a special place in my heart and it's crazy to think how much of an impact this server and community really had on my growth. I wouldn't change a thing.

Anyway that's enough nostalgia for today.

I barely understood how to communicate with people online when I first started playing online games, HL2DM was one of my first experiences playing an online game and really understanding what a community is like. I ended up ditching it for a long time when I finally got TF2, but I'm glad that I was able to make The Yaypit and The Monastery as part of that experience. As a 6 - 10 year old when this server was originally up, which, I really shouldn't have been on here in hindsight... These blurry memories of build server madness are some of my most fond. :happycrank:

I was thinking back on some of the older games I've played, and TFC came to mind. A Google search later for the Yaypit brought me here.
I used to play on Yaypit server as VgWizard14. To be honest, I stopped playing for childish reasons; The Monastary wasn't the same thing, and my identity was tied to the server pretty tightly.

@Vihess hit the nail on the head with all the memorable people and maps. Nearly half my life later I still have the nightclub maze committed to memory (All the better to outrun everyone to the control panel!)

The server was my first taste of coding, as well. I remember being given a DLL file by someone to enable all the unique features that made the server so unique, but at the time I had zero idea what to do with it. Time begets knowledge, eh?

All in all, you guys were great.
