Idea to remove random crits
Everyone interested in playing this game seriously knows random crits are crap, but sv_nocrits means some weapons are unbalanced (*cough* Market Gardener *cough*). Valve, why don't you try averaging crits (e.g.: 2% crit chance → 100% base damage + 4% crit damage (full crits are 200% crit damage))? If it turns out to be unbalanced, well, there are many other math functions you could use.

you arent the first to propose this. it wouldnt work. the math has been proven.

They add an element of randomness, inaceptable in competitive.

Random crits aren't even enabled in MM. Valve will be reworking weapon stats and values once MM roles out too, so you won't have to worry about "no random critical hits" on some weapons.

I know they aren't enabled in MM, but it's still pretty annoying for pubs. I hope they just remove them at that point.

Even with no random crits Market gardener isn't that good.

Nocrits makes it a straight upgrade to the Shovel. Even if it's not that good, it serves well in illustrating a balance problem.

You can't really consider it competitive if a random element is allowed. I don't know a single competitive scene that favors the use of random generated elements into a game because it deviates from skill and can have a negative impact on the enjoyment of the game from both the players and spectators.

Most melee unlocks can't really be balanced around stock options due to the stock option being almost completely useless for the class in all honestly. How does one balance around them? All it'll do is make the unlock just as useless...

The only real exceptions are Spy and Engineer ( Due to unique functions of their melee ), and Demo and Sniper who generally are suppose to have weak up close game IMO when utilizing their normal loadouts.

Pretty much every stock melee (With the exception of the Wrench and Knife) is just inferior to the other options. Also nerfing Market Gardener won't help as it will just make the Escape Plan the best soldier melee.

I think League has random crits in competitive but I don't play so I'm not sure.

I think this discussion is getting out of topic. We should focus on the fact that people are always complaining about random crits. Why would people complain so much but not want them removed? You're like Spaniards with politics.

people complain about that which they cannot control.
it is human nature at its core to want control.
i reject the notion of control and say allow chaos to dictate the outcome of life.

besides, be glad they dont use pseudo-random.
if they did everytime i didnt crit would make me more likely to crit.
be glad its a chance and not a build up chance.

be glad you have a chance to win.
be glad.
