I personally love a lot games about gladiators, currently my favorite one is Age of Gladiators 2 : Rome, a really nice indie game (one-man team) which mixes management and turn-based fights up to 3 vs 3.

Very good analysis of the game. Even you don't know what you do and things go awry, it's fun anyway and you can rebound in most cases. So you can really learn by trial-and-error.

It's the best game ever in my book, don't let this apparent complexity push you away as it mostly play by itself.

Which reminds that I have to finish it someday.... Too many games and never enough time !

For the record, I gave Imperator a positive review despise its flaws, as I feel the backlash was far much excessive (even if indeed deserved) and I have fun playing it overall.

It's a cool map-painter that feels somehow like a casualized version of other Paradox games, shallow at this point but entertaining if you don't take it too seriously.

I love Aggressors and even worked a little as voluntary helper with the Dev team, so I wouldn't be objective.

I would just say that Aggressors feels more like a tactical wargame build on a Civ-like traditional structure, while both those games are more "grand strategy" focused on kingdom management.

I've been in the mood for some old-school adventuring those last days, so I dived deep in my backlog :


JOE DEVER'S LONE WOLF HD REMASTERED

The books were my favorite adventure gamebook so I was quite impatient to give it a try. They got the atmopshere right but whoever had the stupid idea to add some QTE dextery checks for combats needs to be forever banned from the profession. My mind refused to go forward after having to face this abomination...


THE WIZARD OF FIRETOP MOUNTAIN

Great adaptation of the most popular adventure gamebook ever released, this one was much more to my taste. Combats use a simple but fun WEGO Turn-Based system on a 3x3 grid, that works well for the context.


SOLSTICE

A new release in Early Access, but Lords of Midnight is one of my cult games from my youth (I still have the themed mousepad and probably the box too) so I couldn't pass by this hommage that feels like the next chapter in the franchise. Great nostalgy trip, and still fun to play evn if i's totally retro-gaming.


DEMON'S RISE - LORD OF CHAOS

My guilty pleasure of the week ! A tactical gem and fun party-based RPG which I should have played much before ! The campaign is challenging and full of surprise, reminding me of Myth somehow (but Turn-based) in the way you face more and more ennemies against all odds !

It's also nice to play the bad guys for a change, and I have the weirdest band ever (but you can do worse in the game ) : a Werebear, a Black Orc, a Dark Knight, a Snakeman Rogue, a Ninja a Shamaness !!

Only one critic, the game would have gained from the addition of a system of Zone of Control, as big battles quickly become a wild mess....


And last but not least, in a totally different genre :

FIELD OF GLORY : EMPIRES

A very solid, deep and challenging strategy game, with some innovative ideas. Less ambitious in scope than Paradox products, but they could teach them a few tricks and overall the game feels sligthly better than Imperator at his point (see detaillled step-by-step comparison in the specific thread also posted in this forum)
