A Small But Notable Announcement about Super Video Sunday

Hello golf friends, I always love chatting, but this post is something a little more... significant, in an 'end of an era' kind of way.

I'm sad to announce that there will no longer be Super Video Sunday, or at least how it currently exists. Meaning there wont be a guaranteed fixed time multiplayer match organised by me every Sunday. Some of you may miss this, and be assured I will too.

This doesn't mean there WON'T be any Sunday matches. There are other admins who can arrange them, or I may still from time to time. Just no guarantees, at that usual fixed time. I've loved doing this for 3 years or so week in and week out, and I'm so grateful to Mostly Hairless for letting me run with the ball. I have loved meeting and playing with every single golfist along the way.

Don't panic! Both this Clubhouse website and the Clubhouse chat will remain available, and that is still the best way to ask for a meet-up for a game or a chat about multi-player Super Video Sunday. I've noticed recently that more players prefer to arrange something there at a time of their choosing which is great to see. You will still see me there, and damn, I will play if asked, most likely!

Before I leave a couple of Q&A's I wanna thank Mostly Hairless for a truly excellent game and for all of his commitment to it, and us as players. Never met a better dev, thanks so much for this game

Quick Q&As:
SO, NO GAMES ON SUNDAYS?
Maybe me or another admin will arrange matches occasionally so keep your eyes on the Clubhouse chat for an @all. Or anyone can ask for a game there, at any time.

WILL THERE BE OFFICIAL GAMES STILL?
Most likely yes, I plan to arrange formal games across different time zones occasionally, and maybe even look into tournaments I promised. And also other admins and the dev can raise an official game any time they like.

NOTIFICATIONS?
If you are wanting to arrange a game, I recommend you @all on the Clubhouse chat page, which is totally allowed whoever you are. Official games will be @all 'd too. In terms of Discord, there are two bots... the automated Sunday match one will be disabled (I suppose) but any formally arranged matches by me or any admin will still get reminders pushed to the Super Video Sunday channel (I'll update this post if the dev decides to re-organise the Discord)

So much to unpack about last nights games, not least cos we started with a full deck of 12 players (well, sorta) and managed to get through 5 whole games somehow. I can only sum it up with 3 words in British phraseology - a bit mental.
The combination of great golf, drama, camaraderie, banter, angst and glory was just next level. What a night!

As there's a lot to take in, I'm gonna break the tension a little now and say that when all was done, player of the week was an EXTREMELY close 3-way tie between Salvor, DrMcWhitey™, and Jay. So, right now I'm giving these 3 players maximum kudos - top play folks!

I said 5 matches and I wasn't kidding and I also said 12 players at the start... well it turns out that one of the players was an accidental CPU brought along by top guy NUKEum82. Imagine accidentally doing that!!! haha and also imagine if by the time we realised and decided to keep the CPU player in rather than restart, your CPU managed to beat you? If you dont know NUKE, please know he is a great guy and this is a ribbing I know he's ok with, especially as his score was a very nice -7. Would normally be fine...

Match 1: 12 players in single groups of 1 saw that NUKEum score sadly come in last while CPU Tiger shared joint 8th with Windiest Miller *Avril* , Rekkimaru and Local Soup Dragon on that score. Salvor, Ashley and Mostly Hairless shared joint 5th on -9 while me and adamitude shared 3rd on -10.

Let's take a second here to review how mental those scores are, and yet compared to a year ago these potentially winning scores are scraping the barrel. McWhitey one-upped that to finish -11 and yet Jay just roared away to an incredible -13! WHAT??? What madness is that?

So for game two we ditched Groups (and CPU Tiger!) for Teams, where players are paired and take turns. A new layer of chaos and madness but the golf was top notch. In the end, 3 teams tied 3rd on -8 including NUKE's team-up with Jay - and I have to note this putt that kept them in that tie https://youtu.be/gd9Wihcj0X8 Not everyone will realise the beauty and art in that putt, but trust me that is one of the best clutches I've seen and in no way simple or easy.Me and McWhitey came in 2nd at -9 but it was Salvor and Mostly Hairless that held on at the end despite the horrible 18th on Roving Sands (IYKYK) It was fully deserved tho, given that Salvor managed this astounding putt along the way https://youtu.be/2Ug-rLDAS1w please PLEASE just check the initial lie of this putt, and then the final pace when it holes. It's just exquisite!

Won't lie I cant be 100% sure when McWhitey did this as the night was so chaotic, but I THINK it was in this round and I THINK he saved my ass in doing so. This is honestly the best par-save I ever saw, and a flop to boot - amazing! https://youtu.be/tLoKMjRJQX4 And this was just game two, damn! Yet the spiral into madness continued, and here's where the decision for Player of the Week becomes difficult...

I dunno, maybe it was the next round that put Salvor back in the frame. Sadly McWhitey crashed out but was graceful enough to let the game play on, so he was out of this one - again on Teams 1 meaning everyone playing simultaneously. Avril begone, Miller propped up the bottom with a decent -5 with Local Soup Dragon just ahead by a shot while me and Jay managed a tied 2nd on -9 - still really competitive. Yet Salvor's -11 was outstanding and not to be ignored... and game 4 was his favourite, Nearest the Pin+

Which Salvor took in what at first looked like a great hole-by hole battle with Local Soup Dragon until I finally got in there to muck things up. Didn't stop Salvor tho with 4 holes won and the shortest overall distance, while a returning McWhitey joined Windiest and Jay on nul points :(

And incredibly we were not all done - tho Soup and Windiest had to go (understandably,anything else would be just madness and yet here we were) so yet another stroke play game happened. The short version is that this time it was Salvor who crashed out, and McWhitey that pulled off an outstanding score and win DESPITE me casually doing this https://youtu.be/oXYoxnUWpG8 but really this round is what made things so difficult. Salvor got kicked but then again so did McWhitey and we'll never know what their scores would have been in either game. And Jay started really hot, but its fair to say couldn't maintain it...although it was really great to see him stay so long, it's really rare that this legend is able to do that on a Sunday

But in the end out of 3 stand-out performances - all things of beauty, Ive decided that Salvor takes the award home. This is also nice because an all-time legend was back like he was never not here. Congrats Salvor - Player of the Week! Still, I give kudos to McWhitey and Jay for great performances.

BUT WAIT! There is just one more thing... another regular legend couldn't make this night due to muscly men in leotards needing to snarl and jump at each other on TV, but I cannot ignore what verlorensquirrel did in a social game the night before this blew my mind as is certainly worth a post!
