Valve don't even bother moderating this forum. I doubt they'll bother answering a question here.

Take a huge step back. Instead of debugging drivers, just map those things to what games expect in Steam.

It's not part of the USB-C standard. Neither is Thunderbolt and you don't see me raving about the Deck not working with my TB dock. Despite, mind you, TB being an actual fucking industry standard, while Display Link is tech proprietary to that one company.

You expecting it to work based on the technicality on it utilizing USB to carry its proprietary protocol is on you. When Valve said "USB-C docks work", I've read "docks following the USB-C spec for docking functionality, including video, work", not "anything under the sun with this plug works". This goes double for DL as it requires a proprietary driver in the operating system.

You're better off using Hyper-V. It's way more suitable to check out the feeling of an OS, WSL is rather there to make the guest OS appear as seamless as possible in the host. So pretty much the polar opposite of getting a feel for the OS.

How exactly would SteamOS be unusable for that? Testing/debugging on Linux has been done for decades by now.

I have used rust chance once or twice nothing other than that i dont use gambling sites. You make it sound like i use them daily, ♥♥♥♥.

With malicious sites, one time is enough. It's not like there's a risk threshold with every visit adding a bit onto the risk pile.

One single encounter with a malicious site is enough.

Social connections don't need VR nor Facebook. If you want to virtually hang out with people, the chat does just fine as does playing games together.

Steam ain't a social network. It's got a bit of that stuff, but it's all gaming-centered.

Which is fine! There's a life outside of gaming, so there's a life outside of Steam. Just like there's a life outside of Facebook, Meta, Instagram & whatnot.

Anyway, if you want things to happen, do them yourself! Take a look at VRChat, see what it lacks & start building your own VRChat with that stuff that you miss from it.

Do you know what you miss? To put it differently, do you know what Meta is supposed to offer, except hype & privacy scandals?

P2P ain't exactly necessary. There's also the client-server model which many games use.
