There is an outstanding kernel panic problem caused by an interaction problem between inteldrmfb and the fbcon;vc=2-6 argument passed to the kernel in SteamOS. We're working with Intel to resolve the issue; in the meantime, remove that argument from the kernel command-line.
Note for AMD users:
There are outstanding interaction problems between recent Catalyst drivers and SteamOS; AMD is aware of the issues and investigating. We apologize for the inconvenience and hope to get this resolved soon.
?
Or making it play nice with Optimus?
Most of the major improvements aren't complete unless you have kernel 3.13 ( still in RC phase )
3.12 brings the majority of the improvements, but power management improvements weren't complete ontime for 3.12.
Why not give it a shot yourself and install the the latest radeondriver + kernel?
I'm curious too. I have a machine that can run toons of games and non UEFI bios
All have BIOS, not UEFI.
2 have old AMD cards, that won't let me install the OS. The other 2 have Optimus.
3 of them should be quite good at running games, but I can't use any.
