SteamOS Installation failed. Please Help

So when I try to boot to steamOS on my USB stick, it boots to GNU GRUB I then type boot, and it says error: no kernel loaded. How do I fix this?

The screen blanks, 'grub>' appears at the top again, nothing else.

I've redownloaded and re-decompressed both archives, and I get the same result no matter what (working from within windows, and all hidden/system files are visible, and I'm using 7z's "extract all"). Interestingly, with the custom install method, the installer hangs on installing the grub-install dummy package. The rescue installation method gives no error though, just gives that dead grub terminal at the end.

I'd RTFM, but at this point I don't know what documentation to go to anymore. Valve's tweaked things and grubhacking isn't a task I'd trust myself with yet. EFI is no problem, that's easy. Verifying the downloaded files, that's easy. UEFI booting from my usb stick and running the installer, that's easy. I can see everything sitting there on the 10GB partition with my fedora live disc, all ready to boot from...

(Well, I just ran the "Expert Install" for the first time, and the system magically works now. Custom Installer, Expert Install; maybe that's the magic formula. For anyone else who's stuck with the grub terminal, try that instead, the grub installer didn't hang for me there and my SteamOS install is booting from hdd now.)

I was getting the Grub menu from the SYSRESTORE.ZIP but everything worked when I used the SteamOSInstall.ZIP method instead.

I get the stupid Grub window BEFORE I even am able to select any type of install. that's when I use the normal instructions from steams website. When loading ye old iso, it locks up on Running "grub-install dummy. I'm using automatic install, but I'l gonna try expert and see what it does....maybe it will "Magically" work...love computers.

I've heard reports of some USB sticks totally failing to bot the installer.

Try a different brand of stick
