Supported Graphics Card List
Hi,

I'm trying to install steamOS onto a computer and I'm wondering if there is a current/updated list of supported graphics cards or supported series. I've looked around and all I can find are the series the last update changed and that steamOS supports nVidia, AMD, and Intel. My install keeps failing during the "installing base packages" section, and I believe it's because my graphics card is not supported.

Thank you for your time

The only thing I have ever seen is the main page:
http://store.steampowered.com/steamos/buildyourown

Otherwise, I may be able to find something in the git repo, but I doubt it.

Thanks, that's what I saw as well. I saw people commenting that the latest update removed support for some card series and added support for others. I thought that there might be a public source for that information and more detailed information about supported cards.

Not sure if it will get a response, but bookmark the Github issue ticket [github.com] I entered. Aside from that, the only way to check. which isn't bad to do, is to reference the latest driver release on the SteamOS sub forum her (currently 153), you'll see that there are:

NVIDIA drivers to 343.22
AMD graphics driver to 14.9

Per that, you can find....

Supported AMD cards under Catalyst 14.9[support.amd.com]
Supported Nvidia cards under Nvidia 343.22[www.nvidia.com]

So, in practice, checking the release notes of the latest SteamOS release, then checking that versions page on Nvidia or AMD's site is the most to-the-point method. Just google "Nvidia 343.22 linux driver" and you'll find the release notes. This would be a nice post to sticky if* we had a guides section :)

I'm going to start making small guides under the Steam for Linux community hub, as that may fit as close to this one as possible. Once created, they will show up under my profile too.

AMD anything 5xxx and above but the drivers still suck so best to use an nvidia card..
Nvidia anything 400 series + if im not mistaken... Drivers can be iffy with the latest cards but iirc most issues have been addressed...

@ProfessorKaos64 Perfect, thank you. Those are exactly the links I was looking for, I found that steamOS supported up to 14.9/343.22 but had no idea how to reference that to the actual cards.
