Launching Minecraft from Big Picture Mode

So I've been working on a way to play Minecraft from Big Picture mode. I knew I'd have to bypass the launcher to be able to make it work at all and I've done that part. The issue I'm running into now is that when I launch it from Big Picture mode it still doesn't seem to get run.

I have already added a .desktop file that links to my script that will launch the game fine from desktop ( in terminal with sudo -u steam ). However, when launched from Big Picture mode the screen flashes black for an instant and my controller stops functioning in the menus. Nothing else seems to happen.

My current theory is that since, even with Minecraft set to fullscreen, it starts out in a window, Steam doesn't properly grab the application and realize that it's successfully running. Then since Steam didn't grab it, it just goes back to the menu while my controller is linked to the Minecraft window.

Okay, now I have a really weird issue. I can't get Big Picture mode to show all my applications when I go to add a non-steam game. It normally would pick up all the applications from /usr/share/applications but now it's not reading my minecraft.desktop file.

Does anyone have any ideas on how to force a refresh?
