No way to connect to the Internet on SteamOS
Hello, I recently installed SteamOS on a Hardrive on my main system which uses a USB Interface for the Wi-Fi Adapter Which is the Linksys AE2500. The issue is that SteamOS is only is detecting the LAN Port on the back of my mobo and I can not connect via LAN since the Router in my house is in the other room and In my room I don't have a (IDK what its called -_-) Port in my wall so I can't move the router either. The computer can't be moved since that room is someone else's bedroom. Is there any solution to this? Thanks in advance.

What should I do then, Buy a new Adapter? If so, which brand?

Don't buy Broadcom or Linksys. Most other brands do support Linux, you can usually find whether or not a wifi adapter supports Linux on the box.

Tested the two I have on SteamOS system: D-Link DWA-140 and an Encore N150
D-Link was plug & play.
Encore adapter did not work.
You could also get crafty[www.dd-wrt.com] if you have a "spare" router to use as a bridge. This setup has worked for me as well when an ethernet connection is required in wireless only areas.

So this supports Linux:
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B002UVNW5W/htpcbeg-20

Is it compatible with SteamOS?

Man I was gonna buy that Adapter. What do you think I should get?
I'm not sure about the one I linked to earlier as it supports Linux Kernels 2.4-2.6 and I don't know what the SteamOS Linux Kernel Version is. :(

Lsusb?

lsusb is a command you issue in the "terminal" application/window you can bring up from the desktop by hovering over activities in desktop mode and typing terminal. Please visit "https://wiki.debian.org/WiFi" and read through it. Take special not of the "Wireless Adapter Chipset Directory" link. I have had good luck with many adapters including any "designed for" the Rasperry Pi, TP-Link, and more. If you google "good Linux wireless adapter Debian" you'll probably hit a bunch. With any luck, it will just work out of the box.

Works well enough only SteamOS has a problem with it at the moment but because it works with ubuntu I should think theres a fix for it through the terminal, I am just not sure what to try because I not that great at linux stuff.

Try to run this command: sudo apt-get install firmware-realtek -y

Don't forget to also issue 'sudo reboot' or reboot via the top right gnome 3 menu. I believe he is right. I had a realtek adapter / chipset in use at one time. I know it didn't work out of the box. Try some of our suggestions, then if you get too frustrated, look for a more compatible adapter if you wish.

I will try one day but i just reinstalled ubuntu and installed all my games :) but i am also pretty sure I tried installing the realtek firmware and it told me it was already installed, what does the -y do.

I wondered if it had something to do with the kernel version.
