Valve hasn't yet released SteamOS 3 for other computers yet. Use a reverse-engineered Installation like holoiso, or go with more sane options like Bazzite, ChimeraOS or even any modern popular Linux-based distributions such as Fedora, or Linux Mint.
Otherwise, your best bet, is install Bazzite.
The version of SteamOS available at https://store.steampowered.com/steamos/buildyourown is 3.5.7
the minipc was defective though, so i can not longer keep testing stuff with it.
imo, i think is a safer bet to try any other linux distro that is trying to adapt and include the "steam deck mode", until the official version of steam os becomes available "for pc".
im not an expert, but i assume the recovery image expect specific hardware, so even if you can experiment with similar cpu and controller, i think the limitations intended for the deck will be more cripling than other distros that can also allow a similar experience, but maybe more tools and options to make more games work in "limited" hardware (a mini pc).
