The problem with installing SteamOS
I ran into a problem. I decided to install SteamOS on the main PC
Specifications :
AMD Radeon 5 3600
32GB 2x 16GB A DATA XPG Spektrix D41
Msi B450 GAMING PLUS MAX
RTX 4060
But when I come across it, I can't even get into the shell itself, it just freezes at the last moment "[ OK ] Steganos Bot Registration." after that, nothing happens when switching using Ctrl+Alt+F2, it just asks for the Steam Deck login and password, but it doesn't load into the shell.
I decided to try to install it on a second PC
Specifications :
AMD Radeon 5 2600
Patriot Memory DDR4 16Gb (2x8Gb) Viper Steel
Gigabyte A520 MKV 2 DDR4
GTX 1070
And it's a miracle that I was able to boot into the shell and start the installation process, but here's another problem. After rebooting, I don't understand that there are a lot of lines with something and something similar to artifacts. I tried reinstalling it again, but no, it didn't help either. And so I've been sitting for 5 days trying to figure out what's wrong on both PCs since both of them fit the specifications for this case. I had to buy another ssd m.2. If someone can help, please tell me, because I'm already tired of sitting for 5 days in a row.:steamsad:

if using SteamOS 2, do not, forget about it immediately.
If using SteamOS 3 Deck recovery, don't, it does not work on Nvidia.
Use literally any other distro that works out of the box on Nvidia.

I didn't really understand which SteamOS 2 and SteamOS 3 you mean, I just use SteamOS, which is based on this link https://store.steampowered.com/steamos/buildyourown

Which just redirects to the Deck recovery image, it is not compatible with Nvidia, you can't use it. Official SteamOS 3 PC is not out.

Understood, thanks for the reply. So I'll be waiting for the PC release.
Hi, I see it only redirects to an ISO for Steam Deck, which isn't compatible with NVIDIA graphics. Correct? But would the same thing happen if I use AMD integrated graphics? I have an Ryzen 7 5700g without dedicated graphics. Is the result the same if I try to install this ISO?

Some people report it works with AMD graphics.

Depends, Its an older version, if your AMD hardware came out around the same time that the Steam Deck OLED came out, or after, the chance that it'll work is extremely low, you can always try it, but the preview version of Steam OS for third party handheld devices, will be coming out some point next month, so I'd just wait for that.
for people with nVidia graphics: use Bazzite. closest thing you'll get.

steam os v2 was based in an old version of ubuntu, and is outdated and has multiple issues. you can still find it, which is why is recommended to avoid it.

steam os v3, as mentioned earlier, is currently not available for pc, only for the deck; and that version can work in an amd machine with some limitations.

if you want to try and experiment with "steam deck mode", you can still download other distro that allows that. i tried nobara os htpc version, which includes "steam deck mode" with all the settings to limit framerates, and the features to improve playback in limited systems, etc. imo is pretty good option. i think this one also works with nvidia (havent tested this, with this version; "normal nobara os" does, so im guessing it should also work with the htpc version).

nobara os also makes really easy to install other gaming related programs, as well as davinci resolve if you want to edit videos, and unlike other distros that also are "gamer oriented", this one is made and updated by the same dev that works to improve proton (steamplay).

https://nobaraproject.org/

also, unlike the final version of steam os, is probably easier to customise (but then also easier to break). so, if you want a more limited but maybe more reliable os, wait for the official new version of steam os for pc; if not, and want to risk but learn from installing something you shouldnt or configuring something wrong, then try any "gamer" linux distro

You are WRONG, it has been released, it says it supports all three AMD, Nvidia, and Intel graphics cards.

This page is from 2014 and is talking about a version of SteamOS that is no longer supported and does not work anymore on any system. It has been over 5 years since it was last updated. Valve should really take this page down.

just wait a bit more. its supposed to be officially launched in a few weeks, hopefully with news of a new steam controller. until then, you can check other linux distros that include "steam deck mode"
I have an AMD CPU and a Nvidia GPU. SteamOS works for me: https://i.sstatic.net/wjMNRNjY.png
