Xorg configuration file

Hello, does anyone know where find the xorg.conf installed?
I checked /etc/X11 but I can't find it. I'm using SteamOS Brewmaster legacy.
THen if I try to copy xorg.conf generate by nvidia-settings into /etc/X11 the system does not use it.

The xorg.conf file is a thing of the past, now Nvidia should generate a file in /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/ with only :

Section "Device"
Identifier "Nvidia Card"
Driver "nvidia"
VendorName "NVIDIA Corporation"
Option "NoLogo" "true"
EndSection

Hello, where can I set the correct resolution for my monitor? Unfortunatly SteamOS doesn't work fine with my VGA Monitor (Philips 200VW), here is a picture showing the wrong resolution in gnome session:

noteworthy that nvidia-settings reports 1680x1050 but that is incorrect because the true resolution is 1024x760 for both desktop and BPM session.

OK I did find a workaround for overcoming my problem with SteamOS linked to a VGA Monitor.
I commented out the line of code in /usr/bin/steamsession which seeks to set up the optimal resolution. However, switching to the desktop session I yet get lowest resolution. I suspect that has to do with user switching, from steam to desktop user, and file system permission.
