Use Multiple Hard Drives with SteamOS?
Quick question. Can I install SteamOS on a smaller SSD and then define a separate larger Hard Drive as the destination for my game installs? I've got a Steambox setup with a single platter Hard Drive, but I just found an SSD sitting around that I'm not using, and I'm considering doing my install over to have the OS on the SSD and games on the larger drive. Totally doable in Windows, but can this be done in the current version of SteamOS?

Yes, use the export install option (custom installer from the SteamOS download page). You can assign /home to another hard drive.

Thank you for the answer. I think it will be worth it to have the OS loading performance of the SSD.

I wanted to jump back in and report that this worked perfectly! Thank you again ProfessorKoas64. To expand on what I did in case anyone has this question in the future: When you choose the Custom Installer, it will ask you in the wizard whether you want your /home folder to be on a different drive. The /home folder is where your profile, settings, and games will be installed. If you choose this option, make sure that you then select your larger drive as the destination for the /home folder. The installer will then install the OS on the SSD and use your larger drive for games. I am noticing faster boot times and faster switching between menus. It was worth it.

Because my SSD is only so large, I have my games on a HDD ...but I move the most used games to the SSD and symlink the directory from HDD to the SSD.

I'm hoping the us Linux users will one day have multiple game storage options in the BPM setting area like those Windoze people do ..but until then, this works,
