steamos download problem

I would expect a file in *ISO format and not *IMG ;)

They ditched the legacy download, and replaced it with the actual SteamDeck recovery img (Which is NOT to be installed on non-Steam deck devices).
This has been addressed already in those forums, and invite you to search first next time.

SteamOS version 1 'alchemist' and version 2 'brewmaster' have been
discontinued. No further updates are planned.

SteamOS version 3 'holo', as used on the Steam Deck, is a separate
codebase based on Arch Linux packages. An installer for use on generic
PC hardware is planned but not currently available.

Same problem here, every SteamOS Download button is a recovery image deadend. I though about opening a ticket already, maybe this evening.

I don't feel like downloading a makeshift version of an os from a third party. I opened a ticket about the SteamOS download page that directs to the recovery image in every link

Your bump, but from what I see steam has slapped PC users. HoloISO is a full-featured Linux with steam support. If Elite Dangerous works, I won't need m$ windows for anything.

Well thats unfortunate, especially when the download page looked so promising. The support just told me to open a bug report on the valve steam for linux github, since their devs are very active there.
P.s. I just read their response again and thought about it, they probably didn't understand the request since the mentioned github repo is just for the linux Steam client.

The truth is Valve is happy there is a fix until they address it themselves. You can use Holoiso or happily wait until Valve releases an official image compressed as an .iso file
