AMD APU Support
I have this little Mini ITX system "Asrock X300" sporting an AMD Ryzen 4650G APU.
When I install Steam OS on this using the http://repo.steampowered.com/download/SteamOSInstaller.zip
I can set it up and install, and the first time preperation on the desktop also works.
but later after an automatic restart I only get as far as a blank screen after boot.
Is this an issue with the APU? maybe outdated Kernel/drivers?
and how do I solve this issue?
Ubuntu or PopOS work just fine on this machine.

Thanks.

SteamOS is an outdated debian 8 distribution. Either use a more updated distribution, like Ubuntu or PopOS like you said (Would recommend GamerOS/ChimeraOS[chimeraos.org] or, wait for Valve to potentially update SteamOS at Valve Deck release.

i would try steamos again when they release v3, right now you're better off with just a plain linux desktop distro.

i tried extracting the .zip file to a usb stick and i couldn't do it so i found out there is a iso which is way easier because it is a better way (probably). don't use a large external hard drive and make sure it is just a usb stick so it works and put iso file on there with etcher. i've used etcher from putting solus to opensuse to ubuntu manjaro and maybe a couple other linux distros but i actually didn't see that valve has a repo link there to dl the iso because that is an easy way to make a copy. make sure you are using a internal graphics card/chip when first installing as well because i couldn't get through the entire installation when having my nvidia card in this pc. and don't do expert mode i would definately do automatic because it is running ok a little bit right now and i just put it on a day ago. maybe there will be some little fixes for stability and more packages because it is not really that much in there. it is really nice though and works just as good as windows too for free maybe even better than windows actually. haven't tried on an apple pc though obviously they only sell the most recent stuff i think so obviously that machine would run the games fine. i'm getting a new card soon maybe a gtx 1050ti for my old pc i think it would run really nice. ok i think this is too much typing

The system only has integrated graphics, it doesn't even have a PCI express slot XD
I'm now using popos and applied a workaround to boot directly into Steam Big Picture instead of Gnome.
