SteamOS Goes Black After Install
Hello all. I've performed a fresh install of SteamOS on my desktop using the latest ISO on the repo. After installing, SteamOS desktop loads as expected. The update is performed, followed by a restart to partclone. Partclone finishes and then subsequently restarts. Following the restarting, SteamOS logo appears with the hardware install text below. After about 5 minutes of waiting, the screen flickers with many colors, and then goes blank. I have tried installing 3 times, with no avail. Any help would be appreciated.

Do you have a recent GPU? If so, you might consider installing the beta repo?

In your case (black screen), you should try this:

I have a Sapphire Vega 64 Nitro+. Is there a beta ISO available? How will I opt in if I can't access desktop (besides prior to partclone)?

You probably need the beta repo but thing is, there is a bug in the latest SteamOS-beta that breaks the installation and make it go into the "SteamOS is trying to recover from a fatal error" boot loop. So for now, it's a no go.

This said, if you follow the instructions provided in the link in my previous post, you will gain access to a fullscreen version of the terminal, not matter where you actually are (black screen). You don't need to have access to the desktop to do it. This is what ALT+F2 does, but don't try it for the moment. You will have to wait for the next SteamOS-beta.
check the partition at install.. most errors are made with the automatized system..
or may be latest steamos comes with black [ mess : a ] that is still not published..after one other time-limit [ bomb ] has passed... these guys adore hl : for the money that gives for free..

beside that .. i "found" that it is impossible to get this page when using steam [ under win ] ..
i did several search with steamos ... it never shows a page like those of games .. that could help for those using it ... to report bugs.. or others using windows ..

I’m getting the fatal error loop now after the install of beta repo.

You can try auto install?

How would that be any different than just running expert install?

If I good remember my old time with custom install always with black screen for me.\
Auto install it's good for me but must format your Hard Disc
I don't try beta

Neither method works. Beta has a bug which is causing fatal error loop.
