Login problem steamos
I just installed steamos on my laptop but for some reason on the login screen I can't login. Even when I click on it it doesn't do anything. All the other buttons work like power and settings. Is there a solution to this?

I have the exact same issue. Just did a fresh install of SteamOS and I am stuck at the initial login screen. I can navigate everywhere with my controller or keyboard but pressing A or enter on Login does nothing...
Thats the same issue I have too. Does it have to do anything with the new update. Cause when I installed it updated to the latest version
I'm having this problem also. Very frustrating.
I noticed this too when I tested the latest SteamOS two days ago.
Had to disable autologin, start the desktop session and the normal Steam client to get past that step.
Then re-enabled back the SteamOS session.
Same issue, I re-installed Steam os on the Alienware Steam Machine and I can't login, but can access everything else...
What input device are you using? If it's keyboard and mouse, do you have access to a controller?
Hi Guys. same thing just happened to me. did as @dubigrasu suggested, i.e. disabled auto login, and then login as user desktop. starting up steam then works from the desktop user session. when I exit out of user desktop session, and login in as steam and start up the steam client, I get the same screen with the Login button, but nothing happens. will keep messing around and see what else I can find out and post if I get it right
ok. followed this link on how to disable auto login:
https://www.asus.com/au/support/FAQ/1030944/

seems one has to get past the initial login in normal Steam Client mode, not big screen mode. once that is done, and you have your account details in, reverse the auto login, make sure steam client is set to autostart and to start in big screen mode.

thank you @dubigrasu for pointing me in the correct direction

Ah, the thing is that SteamOS has two users:
- the "steam" user which is the one that is used on SteamOS Big Picture (is the actual user that plays the games).
- and a "desktop" user that is used for the desktop part of the SteamOS (when you enable the Linux Desktop). This "desktop" user has nothing to do with the Steam client itself.

So basically when you logged on as "desktop" user, you just installed an extra copy of steam for the "desktop" user, which of course don't helped the original problem.

As you can see in the Asus link you provided, you have to log on as user "steam" and go through the respective steps.
Which you did, and congratulations:)
Having the same problem too. Going to try a reinstall
OK. I did a reinstall but nothing has changed. I'm not sure what to do.
Follow the link , vdpollm postet. just at the point "Reboot and login as “steam” user with the previously set password" login as "desktop". not steam.

It's a laptop but u could connect my xobox controller
Restoring the System Partition is working for me, perhaps only until the new SteamOS update is installed again...
