Please help to switch graphics card
I have an HP pavilion wave on which I installed steam os. It has a Intel integrated graphics card and a AMD Radion m470. The mesa driver in big picture mode says that it is detecting only Intel hd graphics card and not my other main GPU please help.

Thats a LINUX Driver for UBUNTO & Red Hat

But you can try to contact Chris Irwin:

Maybe he can help you ... another solution would be to replace SteamOS with Ubuntu and then install STEAM from the Ubuntu respositry

PS: Try the AMDGPU-PRO Driver for SteamOS from this site:

maybe you can disable the integrated card in the bios?
Eeshan Mulye Mar 8, 2018 @ 1:41am
I can't as it is HP pavilion wave and HP systems have no option in bios to disable integrated GPU.

Substituting SteamOS with Ubuntu and then install STEAM for Ubuntu seems to be your best solution for this problem.

Is THAT the PC on which you want to use SteamOS ?
http://www8.hp.com/us/en/campaigns/pavilion-wave/overview.html

Info about Ubuntu and your hardware you should find HERE :
https://certification.ubuntu.com/desktop/models/?query=&category=Desktop&level=Any&release=18.04+LTS&vendors=HP

Mabye this can also help you to correct your problems with SteamOS, before having to switch to Ubuntu:
https://www.maketecheasier.com/install-steam-in-ubuntu/

PS: ususlly the Intel Integrated Graphics is part of the CPU !
So you can usually only disable the other graphic hardware,
but NEVER the Intel Integrated Graphics !

I found the solution it is a AMD r9 m470 specially designed for the home wave by HP and can not run on Linux. So I thick my system will only support windows 10.

Sooner or later linux drivers for this GPU will be available too ... its only a matter of YEARS of waiting :steammocking:

I suggest that you check https://certification.ubuntu.com/desktop/models/?query=&category=Desktop&level=Any&release=18.04+LTS&vendors=HP in a few months again, maybe you are lucky and they make the new Ubuntu 18.04 LTS compatible to your HP wave ( although it is a bit too early ... maybe the next LTS in 2 years )

I do not know about Ubuntu but I am sticking with steam os as it runs the system but only with processor graphics and hope after some updates valve will also make my GPU compatible.

I figured out a way to run my GPU on Ubuntu with Prime DRI

But now the problem is that the open source mesa driver performance is worse than my integrated GPU. Now how do I solve this

YOU cant ... unless you are able to programm a more efficient CODE for the open source drivers.

You can WAIT until someone makes a better code, or try to find CLOSED SOURCE drivers for your GPU with better performance.

Thank you very much. No problem at least I got everything working. I will wait till the open source drivers get better.

For AMD GPU the chances for better performance from open source drivers are higher than for NVIDIA GPU.

But I suggest that you also post your problem in the HP forums :
https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Desktop-Operating-Systems-and-Recovery/bd-p/OSandSW

Chances that someone knows how to get better performance for your HP pavillion wave GPU is highest THERE !

I figured out the solution. I installed the proprietary drivers from AMD website. First time I installed the drivers with no./amdgpu-pro-install which gave me a infinite login loop on Ubuntu. Then I installed the driver with ./amdgpu-pro-install --compite command and all went well. After that I ran xrandr and set the priority. Then ram steam with DRI command and frame rate issue was fixed. Here are the pictures of system tab on big picture mode

Thank you
