Emulation station exit back to menu on game launch?
So I setup retroarch and es through apt, retroarch seems to run fine but i was missing the ease of integration with retropie. So I got the retropie setup script all running since it works on debian x86 now and i have it all working. However both the retropie and apt installed ES both end up exiting straight back to the menu on game launch

Anyone know what im missing?

Did you get ES working in BPM or only in the desktop?

it launches in both

Though its not doing the autodetection of cores/roms like it does on my retropie setup, so it only shows the default nes example. None of those will launch though, just immediate exit back to ES

Did you change the es_systems.cfg file in /home/desktop/.emulationstation properly?

yes, i also have a symlink to the usr lib cores location so I can use the default es_systems.cfg, but have tried using the absolute path as well

I got it. It was due to my previous installation of emulation station through apt. That creates a local es_systems.cfg. This overrides using the universal one from /etc/emulationstation that retropie will fully handle an auto-update. So once I deleted the cfg from my local .es directory then it all worked fine

Btw using the retropie script is incredibly simple, you just have to change one line in it to fool it since it doesnt understand the steamOS uname

So now I have it properly launching and running as the desktop user. The steam user on the other hand still seems to have some issues

hmm ok, so at least that parts not just me. It acts very similar to how it did when the cfg was incorrect through. So Im guessing some permissions issue or cfg issue somewhere

Besides if retroarch can launch roms fine from BPM theres no reason ES shouldnt be able to

I would suggest puting your notes in the RetroPie wiki. I'd like to link to it. I'm sure it's similar to the Ubuntu example in there.

got a link to where to put it in there? Ive perused many times but hate to put it in the wrong spot.

Really it was just a hack, in the error condition in the system install script I changed it from an error to just setting debian platform to version 8

I've never used Retroarch or any of the cores for it so I really don't know but yeah, that's weird it wouldn't work on ES if it's fine on Retroarch

Unfortunately all I have is my laptop at the moment and SteamOS doesn't work on it, so I can't really do anything to try and help you

Still, i'd add it, even as a subsection. You could create a page like:

https://github.com/RetroPie/RetroPie-Setup/wiki/RetroPie-Ubuntu-16.04-LTS-x86-Flavor

If you do, link me and I'll check the rest of the wiki where to reference it for you. It is still useful for some.

Ok added to the end of the faqs in there. It looks like none of the linking works on that page (at least it doesnt seem to work for me, hopefully I didnt break the linking)
