Getting used to keyboard and mouse for first person shooters, any advice?
As a long time console gamer my transition into the glorious PCMR has been very fun and interesting.
However i am having a stumbling block and that is getting used to the keyboard and mouse for first person shooters.
While it is unlikely I will use the keyboard and mouse for many other games I have outside of strategy games like crusader kings and Xcom I still like using the controller for my other genres such as performers, action games, fighting games and many others where I feel playing with the controller is more in my comfort zone.
But for first person shooters I know keyboard and mouse is better but my transition into playing games like DOOM have been entertaining to say the least.
I really wish to play doom with a keyboard and mouse so i can play other FPS games with a keyboard and mouse such as Portal and CS:GO.
My normal control methods are using the steam controller and the 360 gamepad.
Both of these meet my needs as a long time console gamer, I have been a console gamer since the NES
But for first person shooters i know nothing beats the keyboard and mouse but i am having quite a adjustment period.
What methods do you use for it?
Any tips or tricks you can give me to get used to using a keyboard and mouse for first person shooters?
Video tips?
Every other genre i am fine with the controller but this is something I am having difficulty with keyboard and mouse controls, I am just not used to it.

I am certainly not new to the PC, been using it for well over 10 years but playing games via mouse and keyboard?
A total alien experience.

I dunno what kind of settings you're using but make sure you turn off things like Mouse Acceleration if you haven't. Play around with a few different sensitivities until you find one that feels close to being natural then just play a shooter for a while until it's second nature. You'll "come around" eventually.

I am sure i will
Its not the mouse per se its actually more the keyboard I am having issue with. The mouse is a razer deathadder chroma and so far its done well for the aiming parts. its actually getting used to WASD. I actually have a pretty cool keyboard, a redragon indrah mechanical keyboard with blue switches which may not be the most ideal switch for gaming its more the layout of what the keys do is where I think my hang up is. Perhaps i should work on keybinding, like where do you think I should assign my glory kill button to? Do you think assigning that to my mouse is a good idea? My mouse back and forward navigation buttons are not in use but if anyone has any other ideas feel free to chime in. I was more asking what could I do to get better like is there some sort of tutorial or something? I know that sounds daft, but again long time console peasant LOL :D

Customizing your keybindings indeed will be good idea. Bind the actions you want to do, closest to the WASD.
R of course is fine for Reload, if the game has leaning on left and right, you can try binding those on the mouse shoulder buttons. Then use Q and E for other actions.

Go for what feels most natural and intuitive to YOU. That means mouse on the left or right hand side. A wired mouse with a high quality laser, I recommend the Zowie brand.

Turn off all mouse accelaration software first and foremost. These stupid algorithms are the bane of proper 1:1 accuracy.
Adjust sensitivity in whatever first person shooter you play until you can do a 180 degree turn by swiping your mouse from one side of the mousepad to the other.

Get rid of that membrane keyboard and buy a mechanical one. With CHERRY MX switch's! Checkout Corsair's lineup. I recommend Cherry MX blue switch's.

Keybinds for movement are more often than not "WASD," or "Directional arrows." I use directional arrows and have the "END," key mapped to interacting with stuff and opening doors.
"ENTER" for reload. And use mouse wheel to switch weapons.

I said i did own a mechanical keyboard already, a redragon indrah:

I have seen corsairs prices, too high.
Sure my switches are not MX cherry, they are Outemu switches but the ratings people give the keyboard were enough to make me want to try it.
I didnt want to spend over $100 for something I had no experience with and the price was reasonable.

And i mentioned I ready have a gaming mouse in the Razer deathadder, so far so good on that front.

Pretty much this mate.
Mess around with the configs until it's comfortable.

Personally I prefer using one of those old kensington trackballs for fps. High maintenance though.
