Suggestion: Hotkeys

I have FN buttons on my keyboard that allow me to pause and skip etc when im listening music through Windows Media Player. It would be great if Steam had it too

This is a must. Won't use it, till this feature is implemented, since I want to be able to pause my music instantly via keyboard hotkey.

I think we should have some hotkeys which could be customized or disabled. When playing Garry's Mod, volume of buttons is one of the limits.

That is the only reason I am still using WMP. A Play shortcut should be added on a gamepad too, something like Guide+LT.

Final Code is much better as it supports all most all of the media formats.

Like the OP, I am still using WMP because I can Play/Pause/Next with media shortcuts on my keyboard while another window is on focus.

I use VLC and WMP Classic as alternatives. I do not know this Final Code you are talking about, I only found a Final Media Player. That is not the point anyway, we are talking about Steam shortcuts here.

Would like a option to disable hotkeys, whenever I pause my a song in Foobar with a Steam chat window open Steam music starts playing.

The latest Beta update has added commands for Play/Pause. I created shortcuts to my desktop and added the "steam://musicplayer/play" command and it works.

Can you explain how to do that?

Create a shortcut with a destination like:
"C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\Steam.exe" steam://musicplayer/play

The hotkeys are working, when you focus a Steam window. A full support would be appreciated. Because, I want to play/pause/next whenever I want, even when I don't focus any Steam window.

That is a hardware issue. For example, my Logitech keyboard's media buttons only work on WMP like that.
If you assign the play/pause shortcuts to keyboard buttons, it should work.

(edit1) I just tested it, you do not even need any special application. Create two shortcuts, one with /play and one to /pause and set a key combination to start them.
I am no Windows expert but this seems to work. Some feedback would be nice.

edit1) It works fine when you're not playing but I haven't tried it out yet ingame.
For Razer users: I've tried binding key 4 and 5 on my mouse to the play/pause shortcuts but that didn't seem to work.

Bindable hotkeys with modifier support would be wonderful for this! (like ctrl+pgup for previous track, ctrl+pgdn for next track, ctrl+ins for play, etc..)

Have you tried this in administrator mode for steam by chance?
