...and also the fact that networking for stage 2 is a bit more unreliable than the first one, so we end up playing RC1 so we don't spend the whole weekly game evening troubleshooting problems.
When I first created the group, it was named "Rollcage Stage 2 Playing Group", because then I prefered the second Rollcage ; or at least I didn't have played the first Rollcage long enough to be able to say accurately which one has better gameplay.
Playing Rollcage Stage 2 was fine during the first weeks of the group, like when we were 3 or 4 to play (Unreal, Wrob, LustVanGoth and me). But then when more guys began to appear, well it turned out we had a lot of problems to set up a race, and the first Rollcage was giving less problems.
I really used to suck and hate the first Rollcage. But then, playing it over and over, I understood why some people think Rollcage 1 is better. And now, when I want to have some Rollcage games, I almost never choose the second but the first one. A much more balanced game, with tracks that are a lot funnier, a challenging AI, and a driving system that I find to be better.
While Rollcage Stage 2 has unbalanced cars, fun tracks too but not as fun as Rollcage 1, some powerups that are litterally useless when not fully powered (cf. the tier 1 of exploding bubble.. Did anyone manage to hit somebody with it seriously enough to send him away ?), a teleporting bonus that is frustrating (but if this one didn't exist, considering how powerless is the leader missile, well it would be worst :P), a leader missile that is powerless with high tier cars (easy to dodge most of the time, even without a driller, and not so much effective).. In Rollcage 1 at least, every powerups can be useful if properly used.
But, Rollcage Stage 2 introduced some nice features, starting with a combat mode that is a lot better than the first Rollcage (Firefox <3), a Genesis car that is awesome to drive (ok this is not objective), a Scramble mode that is a really nice idea (even though some tricks can be used, cf the video of Broscar :P), the elimination track mode, the soccer mode.. If codemonkey successfully manages to melt the two Rollcage games into one, it will be some serious bomb (everything he has done is already great, thanks a lot to him).
But yeah, to have been a Rollcage Stage 2 fan for a very long time, I understand your point of view :)
And welcome to the group btw !
That's the reason I enjoy it. :)
rollcage 1 is basically perfect in every single aspect
