RSRBR "mode" selection?
Hi all, quick question: what is the "mode" selection in RSCenter?

I just installed RSRBR and after a lot of headache and forum surfing I think I've got it working pretty well so far.

What is bothering me the most about the mod right now is the "mode" selection. I can't find a good explanation for it anywhere, but from what I'm gathering it changes the surface physics of the track you choose to play, regardless of what type of surface the track actual is made of? If this is the case it is a very messed up way to go about improving the physics. For example, many tracks have mixed surfaces.

If what I have above is correct, is there a way to play all tracks with their default surface settings? Thank you!

I don't believe there is a default setting. For the inbuilt tracks, just go with whatever it originally was, and the physics will be left to what they originally were. So, Gravel for anything other than France and Finland. For France go Tarmac, for Finland go Snow. I don't have RSRBR installed to check, but those should be close enough to the respective modes.

It should change the appearance and physics of the stage you've selected (or any you select in game) to whatever mode you've selected. It doesn't work in Rally Season modes, as far as I know, and possibly something else, and it may not give you any option for the RSRBR extra tracks.

Interesting! I didn't know that it also changed the appearance of the stages. That's actually pretty cool.

I have to ask, if you're still playing RBR in 2018, what mod ARE you playing with, if not RSRBR?

Thanks!

None. I haven't played much this year, but I far prefer the original physics, cars, and tracks. Track learning is a big issue, but other than that I have no problem with it. And I still have RSRBR installed, just out of date. I said it wasn't installed because the computer I use for sims isn't the one I use for anything else, and RSRBR isn't on my computer for everything else.

I just use Robert Reid as my co-driver (from the fantastic pack by porridge), WorkerBee's Pacenote Plugin, the shifter plugin (not in use most of the time), the FixUp plugin, and DashMeterPro for Android. All of which I highly recommend, by the way.

EDIT: Oh, and I modified the physics ever so slightly. As the friction on gravel in the game is unsusually low, I changed the friction modifier on the wheels of all the cars to '1.1', from '1.0'. This makes the game feel much better with the default physics, with all the necessary (without excessive) grip on gravel, and without the horrible weightless feeling the NGP cars have.
RSRBR uses NGP, by the way.

Gotcha, thanks for the tips! I'll check out some of those addons!

If you don't like NGP, but like everything else about RSRBR, do you know if there is a way to use the but but turn off NGP? Thanks.

I'm not sure. I'll have to look into that sometime. Pretty sure it's car dependent, but I'm not sure how that factors in with the NGP plugin.
Anyway, good luck with that, feel free to send me a message if you have any more questions, or anything of the sort.

You're the man NerfHerder.

Thank you for helping keep this game alive. I recently just got into racing games, and its too bad that I never knew of RBR when I was a kid. I always thought racing games were boringly easy. Recently I've found Dirt Rally and RBR and they have opened up the world of racing for me. RBR is just too awesome; I can't believe its a 2004 game.

Thanks again.

Wow, you're right NerfHerder. The vanilla physics really do seem better. After playing for a few days on RSRBR (NGP) physics, I reinstalled the vanilla for comparison. The vanilla physics seem more realistic to me. I don't feel like I'm driving a hover craft anymore.

That said, I really like the RSRBR content. If only there was a way to disable the NGP physics.

If I figure out a solution I will let you know!
