Minimum spec test for Tackle for Loss
Test #1
I used a GTX 750 Ti with two GB of VRAM, and it ran pretty well! No noticable hitches, and a solid 60 FPS the whole way through. The game used only 1 GB of my RAM, with plenty to spare. I even turned VSync and Peformance mode on and it still ran very well, the only problems were my struggling to chain kills:steamfacepalm:

Test #2
With a 750 working well, and because XX GB RAM was the lowest I had available, I decided to bump the graphics card down to a GTX 660. Somehow disabling VSync made the FPS worse, but when I enabled it again I got a more or less smooth 60 FPS, with the very occasional stutter

The system used an Intel Core i5, which showed no noticable bottlenecks, even while running the game off an HDD. Sound quality and responsiveness remained good throughout testing.

Test #3
I decided to downgrade the hardware down again, this time using an older Core i4 alongside a GTX 560. Both components handled the game pretty well, and while there occasionally brief quirks during gameplay (small pauses or dips, etc) the overall responsiveness stayed solid.

Frame rates generally hovered around the 60 FPS mark. They weren’t perfectly consistent, especially during scenes with more activity on screen, but performance never really dropped to a level that felt unplayable or uncomfortable.

Test #4
I think I kind of confirmed that almost any 2GB GPU will run pretty great, so I wanted to see how it would work on some intergrades graphics. Using the Intel HD Graphics 4600, commonly found in 4th-gen Intel CPUs, the performance was a bit lower, with lowered FPS and slight delays between button presses.

Disabling VSync helped quite a bit, making inputs feel more responsive, but larger areas with many NPCs still caused a couple drops. Despite this, the game was still very playable, which was impressive for hardware that predates the RX 550 by almost a decade.

The same Intel Core i5 CPU remained smooth with no CPU-side issues.
Running the game from an HDD also didn’t noticeably change loading or gameplay performance.

Minium specs
Below is my table I created for the offical specs vs. my founds specs. If there's any more information I can provide, please feel free to let me know!

MINIMUM:
Requires a 64-bit processor and operating system
OS: Windows 10
PROCESSOR: Intel Core i3-3240 (2 * 3400); AMD FX-4300 (4 * 3800)
I wasn't able to test a CPU lower than this

MEMORY: 4 GB RAM
You could probably drop this to around 2GB of RAM if you wanted to.

GRAPHICS: Radeon RX550 (4GB VRAM)
Testing shows the game seems to run well on any dedicated GPU with around 2GB of VRAM, I would write excatly this: "GTX 560 or other GPU with at least 2 GB".

STORAGE: 1000 MB available space
Wouldn't this techinically be considered 1 GB?

Other suggestions/tweaks
  • A gore toggle is a great idea, maybe consider a swear word filter too?
  • Adding Steam Cloud support for autosaves would be a great quality-of-life improvement.

Overall impressions
I honestly didn’t expect this game to hook me the way it did, but after spending time with it across multiple tests, I really like it!. I think the devlopers have done a really good job in so many aspects of the game, and the combat system in particular I think is really well though-out.

From a RUNOLD standpoint: if your machine can run other lightweight 2D indies, chances are extremely high this one will cooperate. The flexibility here is well on par with classics like Stardew Valley, Undertale, and Terraria, games that basically refuse to not run. Tackle for Loss fits right in with that.

But it needs your help! I've been given the game through Curator Connect as a review copy, and while you can try the demo right now, Valve requires the game to hit 8,000 wishlists before it can release on Steam.

I think this is a game that has a lot of potential, so if you liked Hotline Miami or other games like it, Wishlist Tackle for Loss todaY!

How our reviews work
What do we consider a low-spec computer?

A low-spec setup typically falls somewhere in this range:
  • NVIDIA GeForce GTX 90 series max, or older, or potentially NO GPU.
  • Integrated Graphics: Systems relying on integrated GPUs, such as Intel HD Graphics or AMD Vega series.
  • Processors: We're talking older CPUs, like Intel's 5th Gen Core series or AMD's FX series.
  • Memory: around 4GB to 8GB of RAM.
  • Storage: Usually HDDs instead of SSDs.

These kinds of setups may struggle with modern games — but with the right tweaks, many titles are still very playable.

Tweaks?

Tweaks are in-game or system changes that help improve performance on aging or underpowered hardware. Common ones include:
  • Graphics settings in-game: lowering resolutions and disabling or reducing things like shadows, anti-aliasing, and post-processing effects.
  • Framerates: capping FPS to reduce strain on hardware
  • Background processes: closing any unused (background) applications to free up RAM and CPU.
  • Driver adjustments: keeping your drivers updated — or rolling back if needed for stability.

With a few smart tweaks, you can turn a laggy experience into something stable and enjoyable., and significantly enhance performance and stability on older hardware.

Our Review Approach

When reviewing games, I focus on four main things:
  • Performance, and how well it runs on a low-end system
  • Stability – will there be any major crashes, bugs, or hitches during play?
  • The game's playability, whether the game remains enjoyable despite potential performance limitations.
  • And visual fidelity vs. performance. Can you get a decent balance between looks and framerate?

I recommend games that run well on low-end systems — and don’t recommend the ones that don’t. That could fall under Informative, but to keep things simple, thumbs up means it runs, and thumbs down means it doesn’t (or not well enough).Even if a game is good or popular, if it struggles on low-spec hardware, it gets a thumbs down here. This curator is about performance, not popularity.

We will also never accept compensation to write reviews in favor of a developer or publisher, meaning all recommendations are independent, honest, and based solely on a game's performance.

Sometimes I run my reviews through ChatGPT or another AI to tighten things up a bit, as reviews are limited to ~200 characters. Any new info from AIs is always fact-checked before being written into the review.

Keep in mind — my reviews aren't definitive. Everyone’s setup is a bit different, and hardware quirks can vary. If you think I got something wrong, or have better results, drop a comment!

Our goal is to give fast, honest insight to help you decide if something will actually run on your machine. No guesswork. Just clear answers.

Thanks for following the group, and feel free to ask questions or share your own results. This page is all about getting the most out of your hardware — no matter how old it is. :p2chell::steamhappy:
