-Using all of your allies in combat: Ever wondered why you could only use 3 or 4 of your allies in a fight when you have 8 or 9 of them following you at all times? The idea is to solve this issue, either with a party composed of only 4 people or, if there are more than 4 allies, an ingame system and reason for not having them all at the same time. Maybe healing is less powerfull (than it is usually depicted) or healing magic enables your chars to keep on fighting, but doesn´t close the wounds completely, or perhaps there are unwanted side-effects to healing magic abuse. After all, chugging down 20 potions at once can´t be good for you, right? Maybe implement a recovery/healing/rest time system so that the player has to cycle through the chars, leaving some to rest/as a reserve.
-World exploration: Instead of having a vague overworld with detailed points of interest, create a large world composed of many maps, which could be explored with skills like Jumping, Climbing and Running (Parkour), Swimming/Surfing, and Flying. Also, make it so that the player can use these skills when exploring towns, cities, etc.
