Teresa Manidis’ book, Moon of Honey (2005), has foreseen some of today’s tourism dangers. Danger to tourists on small islands is a big problem now a days. Teresa’s book is set it in a small Portuguese island and has the main characters (Amelia and Peter) frequently running in to such dangers.

Before the third chapter, Amelia runs into a mysterious man in the basement of a small restaurant. Jill then wonders right into the middle of espionage mystery. Throughout the book Jill and her husband are subject to hijackings, beatings, attempted killing, kidnapping, and theft, all why going on an innocent (But very exciting) vacation.
Theft on islands is a very common. Ranging from petty theft to everything you have. Small islands commonly have gangs and plan to rob tourists. Try not to bring to many valuables on vacation with you. If you do, keep them hidden well, like in a hotel safe or buried in sand etc.
Beatings fall under the same category as theft. You very often wear your valuables, or have them with you. If so then you could be subject to a mugging. Again thieves would do a lot of things for a solid gold watch or an iphone. Avoid bringing lots of things with you when you go out, and don’t stay out after dark.
Cars are very valuable on islands. Many poor criminals would easily try to steal your car. Once they have your car they could sell it for a chop shop or keep it for them selves. Your best bet would be either to secourly lock your car when you’re not using it, or try to get a house with a garage.
Kidnapings occur when you show signs of wealth and riches, or when you start to meddle in other people’s business (like in Moon of Honey). Go out with other people if you fear kidnapping and close all your doors and windows when you sleep.
Killings rarely occur on civilized islands. Only if you are about to discover a criminal out or are a witness, or if you have found a valuable treasure, or are a very misfortunate person who just happens to be killed. You usually don’t have to worry about being killed while on vacation. Just don’t be too inquisitive about things that you don’t need to be.

All these dangers must be accounted for when you go on vacation. Moon of honey captures some of the dangers of vacationing on a small island while combining. Tourist danger is an occasional threat on islands and is to be headed. Always be observant and carful on vacation.
