The Ionian school was an ancient Greek school of thought that remarkably sought not to perpetuate its teachings but to overturn them. By this means it had correctly developed models of plate techtonics and a sun-centered solar system with the planets in correct order and position and even correct rotational tilt for the earth and moon by about 600BCE. They represent the earliest example of an open society dedicated to the development of knowledge in world too often dominated by dogmatic belief in absolute truths.
