Then Idle Master tells steam that 1 or more games are playing. It re-reads the badge page occasionally to see if there are still drops remaining.
That's it. Steam drops the cards for games being played. Steam only drops half a badge set per game regardless of whether or not you use Idle Master (or other card farming software).
This Idle Master group discussions board is here on the Valve/Steam servers, it's been here for years. If Valve had anything against Idle Master then I think they would have said something by now, but it wouldn't make sense for them to do anything because 'whales' (like me) buy huge numbers of games so why upset them unnecessarily?
