How to disconnect home streaming?
I've googled around but I'm not totally sure how to phrase my question at all, so I'll try to describe what I want to do.

I have a gaming desktop upstairs and a MacBook. I sometimes start playing a game on the desktop and end up wanting to go downstairs with it, which is fine since streaming will connect to a game that is already running. But when I get back a couple hours later, maybe I want to resume playing on the desktop. I can't figure out how to disconnect home streaming from my laptop once it's been connected so that I'm only showing video on the desktop, without quitting the game and relaunching on the desktop.

Has anyone figured out a good way to accomplish this?

ALT-F4?

MacBook. No alt-f4. But, wouldn't that quit the game at the source anyway?

Yes, ALT+F4 will kill the game on both machines.
I ran into the same problem and didn't find a solution.

But an idea could be the following: The large "Play / Stream" button on the game page could simply become a "Stop Streaming" button during Streaming.

Thanks for the reply. I'm really hoping this becomes a feature, maybe in the steam overlay on both machines or something, because this is the main hold back to me using this on a daily basis.

I had the same situation come up at times on Guild Wars 2. Playing on laptop through streaming, get caught up in a world event or something so i go to main pc, where i can use my Naga.

Sure you can just play on main pc an let it keep streaming, but that might not be n option if like my battery on laptop is about to die.

My biggest issue with just leaving it streaming is that the sound, at least on my setup, stays coming out of the laptop. Now, I'm apparently a hardcore nerd and I have some loud servers next to me which drown out my tiny little laptop speakers, so I'd like the sound to start coming from the desktop when I return.

#masterraceproblems, I guess.

I just hit mute on the laptop, and hit volume up on main pc.

It's a workaround, there should be an option to end streaming somewhere on the 2ndary pc.

True. Hadn't thought of that.

I would also welcome such feature.

EDIT: on Linux I've send SIGUSR1 signal (probably unhandled) and the steam streaming_client process crashed, that decoupled streaming, I only had to unmute audio on source computer. Sadly this is Workaround using unhandled signal.

I ran into this problem tonight, thus me finding this thread. What I just found to work was closing the laptop lid. The game kept running on the host desktop and sound was returned.

Hmm two possible options, I don't use MAC, I use windows but maybe its similar, can you Alt Tab or something equal on MAC back to the clients desktop, then just click in steam to restream the game, if it's already streaming it closes the stream....Also maybe find an app on Mac that can hotkey a command to kill streaming_client.exe or whatever it is on MAC, that'll work too...Theres gotta be something for MAC...I stream a autohotkey script I built with all kinds of built in features, not sure if theres an equal for MAC maybe...

It works for me when I turn the wifi off and then back on.

In yesterday's update you can hit Ctrl-G and select the "Stop Streaming" option.
