non steam games controller/gamepad support
i have some games on my origin account and i do often play starcraft 2.

i tried to stream those games and realized that the gamepad does not work in those games. the keyboard works well but the gamepad just does not move anything in the games. usually those games do not even recognize the gamepad that is connected to my steam os on my streaming pc.

am i missing something or am i the only one to experience this?
and does anyone know if there is going to be a solution for this?

hi
You can install the programm "Xpadder" this emulate the Gampad with Keyboard and mouse Commands. The version 5.3 is free. The latest version (5.7)costs. I need this programm for games with not Gampad support. But is not worked with linux only windows.

why would i want to emulate a gamepad with keyboard controls on a windows machine, if all i want to do is use the gamepad on the steammachine to control the game on the windows streaming pc...

this reeks of advertisement (scam).

I believe he couldn't explain himself in the best way. I think you can use the sw to map your gamepad into keyboard and mouse controls. That way you use the gamepad, but the game receives the input as if it was done from the keyboard/mouse.

There are still a lot of issues with gamepads and joysticks. Valve is working on them, and they are improving the support in several games, but i believe they won't be focusing on non-steam, until they fix all steam games. Hopefully, after they are done, they'll turn to non-steam games. I also have problems, with BF4, with the mouse input :D

In order to play a game that does not natively support joypads you need to setup software that will instead let your joypad emulate mouse and keystrokes which would be sent to the host machine. This would need to be setup on the client machine so the keystrokes are sent to the host.
On windows machines xpadder and pinnacle gameprofiler are the most popular examples.
If you have steamos you need a similar program. A google search should give you a number of options, unfortunately I have never used a xpadder-like software in a Linux OS so I cannot give a recommendation.
Though you should look for something that is intended for Debian since that's what SteamOS really is.

If you have a wireless gamepad, you can have it connected to the host machine.

In my case, I have some 360 controllers and the 360 wireless receiver. The range is long enough for me to have the 360 receiver connected to my gaming rig but play games in another room using the controller.

on linux, you can natively configure X to treat the gamepad as the mouse. install the X drivers if you don't have them already, i use Wii pro controllers & DS4, so i needed xf86-input-xwiimote and the generic xf86-input-joystick. make sure you get a file in /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/ that has StartKeysEnabled & StartMouseEnabled options set in my case that's 50-joystick.conf but the name does not matter. then i used xwiimote and ds4drv to map gamepad buttons onto keyboard keys. this will however impair games with native directinput support since the gamepad will be generate both gamepad *and* mouse events, so you should only enable it for the games that require it. in fact you should probably write a small script that enables this support, runs the game, and then cleans up and make your steam shortcut point to that script instead.
