You can install the programm "Xpadder" this emulate the Gampad with Keyboard and mouse Commands. The version 5.3 is free. The latest version (5.7)costs. I need this programm for games with not Gampad support. But is not worked with linux only windows.
this reeks of advertisement (scam).
There are still a lot of issues with gamepads and joysticks. Valve is working on them, and they are improving the support in several games, but i believe they won't be focusing on non-steam, until they fix all steam games. Hopefully, after they are done, they'll turn to non-steam games. I also have problems, with BF4, with the mouse input :D
On windows machines xpadder and pinnacle gameprofiler are the most popular examples.
If you have steamos you need a similar program. A google search should give you a number of options, unfortunately I have never used a xpadder-like software in a Linux OS so I cannot give a recommendation.
Though you should look for something that is intended for Debian since that's what SteamOS really is.
In my case, I have some 360 controllers and the 360 wireless receiver. The range is long enough for me to have the 360 receiver connected to my gaming rig but play games in another room using the controller.
