Steam crashes on host computer right after streaming launched
Hello all,

I read every similar topic, but nothing helped (most of the issues were on hosts with nVidia graphics cards - mine has an AMD).

The thing is, no matter what game I launch from the client pc's steam application (tried it with two different clients, to make sure), steam crashes on the host machine right at the start. My case might be unique, because the host PC has dual monitors, dual sound cards and a video capture card, just to make things simple.

Here are the host specs:
  • Gigabyte GA-H77-DS3H
  • Intel Core i5-3450 @ stock
  • Kingston HyperX 8GB DDR3
  • Gigabyte HD7770 1GB @ stock
  • Integrated Realtek ALC887 codec
  • ASUS Xonar D-Kara sound card (primary)
  • AVerMedia Live Gamer HD capture card
  • Dual 22" LG (one through the capture card with HDMI and the other through DVI).
  • Windows 7 x64
  • AMD Catalyst 14.4 + Gaming Evolved (whatever that is)

The primary sound card is what games use and the output of that one gets muted before Steam crashes. I have no problems running games locally, but I couldn't get the in-home thing to work.

Tested clients:
  • Custom HTPC (AMD E-350 + HD 6310 + Win7 x64 + AMD 14.4)
  • Lenovo G505s (AMD A8-4500m + HD 7640G + Win7 x64 + AMD 14.4)

Logs dumps and whatnot:

Only these files were affected when the crash happened, other logs had no relevant data according to the file modification dates.

Please help me get the streaming set up!

Thanks in advance,
Jay

Have you disabled hardware encoding on the Host?
Have you tried launching games locally on the Host in Big Picture Mode?

Tried disabling both hardware encoding and decoding, no luck.

This is Steam trying to use AVX2 instructions on your CPU and crashing because they're not available. I'll look into it.

In the meantime, you can work around this by setting the environment variable LIBYUV_DISABLE_AVX2 to 1

That's odd, it's an 3rd gen i5, it should be available. Thanks, I'll give it a try.

I sent you e-mail asking for more information. Thanks!
