Steam streaming microphone with in home streaming
Been battling this issue for about 12 hours straight now and I just can't get any sound from my local microphone to go through to my streaming session. When starting up a game the virtual audio drivers are enabled and when checking the settings both in steam and on my playback devices in windows steam streaming microphone is used for voice. My microphone works perfectly fine on the local machine but nothing is registered in the streaming session.

I have disabled and uninstalled everything I can think about on the host machine that might interfere (which is also a brand new installation) and it's driving me crazy so I added some funds to my account so that I can come here and ask for help. Is there a special trick I'm missing or any other known issues that I'm unaware of.

Does this actually work for people in general? Everything else with in-home streaming has worked perfectly fine just out of the box.

+1 Have u got it fixed? Does this function even works? Can anyone confirm it works?
Also spend days and days getting it working.
Nope and a bit surprised I cannot find any information anywhere regarding this as it seems to be a supported feature that just, for some reason, doesn't seem to work.

I ended up downloading a program which lets me share USB ports over my network and then shared my local headset with the server. Pretty annoying though to have to start up the stream and then go into settings on the remote computer every time and change my playback and recording settings to use the shared headset.

Using the trial version of USB Network gate. Have to do some more research though as I'm not very keen on coughing up $199 for the full licence after the trial has finished :P
Was troubleshooting the same problem, figured that uninstalling the Steam Streaming audio drivers on the Host and letting them re-install themselves might fix the issue; except that now they won't.

I've uninstalled and reinstalled Steam as well as disabled and re-enabled Steam In-Home Streaming on the Host, moved Steam to the Beta Client, rebooted the Host PC between all of the prior steps... no matter what I do, launching a streaming session does not prompt for installation of the Steam Streaming drivers.

So I've gone a step backward now... at least before I could see the Steam Streaming drivers in my Audio Control and even though they didn't work, at least they were there. No matter what I do I can't get those drivers to install again.

EDIT - Got the drivers to install again by navigating to C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\drivers\Windows10\x64 and right-clicking on the .inf files and selecting "Install". I can now see the drivers again, but they still don't actually work. My client microphone sees audio, but on the host nothing registers.

i've already gave up on this.
Also tried everything you listed above but keeps failing!
They seem to support this only on Win8.1 and Win10. However I managed to install the drivers for win8.1 on Win7. But just like mentioned above by others, Steam did not automatically establish an audio link when streaming video. Which is annoying of course, since they already spend the time to implement this functionality, just one step away from enabling it.

I am having the exact same issue, except my game will launch. I removed the devices from the audio device panel, and removed the drivers inside the device management panel. I rebooted the client and the host PC, and they both let me go right back into game with no prompt to reinstall drivers. This seemed odd to me, but I kept going. Lo and behold, the mic still isnt working, and the Steam Streaming audio devices never returned.

I tried to manually reinstall them using the .ini files, and they claim to have been successfully reinstalled, however from what I can tell the drivers have not returned and the audio devices are not there either.

I even went as far as removing Steam, rebooting, and trying to reinstall steam. It detects the streaming client, and the client detects the host, but again neither of them install drivers or prompt to install drivers.

I now just installed the Beta, under advice from a steam article. Still no driver prompts on my end.

PLS HALPPPPP.

Windows 10 Pro x64 Build 1709.
Device is a Turtle Beach P11 Headset. I have tested the mic on 3 PCs and the device works fine as well as that the recordings sound clear. If anyone has new steps let me know, I am pretty exhausted with this for now. I may just go back to running with my device plugged in to the PC for the time being.
I just saw this after posting my own thread. cant believe this has not been resolved having the exact same issue.
Yeah I have since I created this thread just stopped using in home streaming - mainly because of this issue. Since I didn't have any issues with any drivers and everything looked in order from a setup perspective I have just assumed that this particular piece of functionality just wasn't working or the implementation was extremely sensitive to what hardware you were actually using.

Using usb port sharing software was a pretty good workaround to be honest (I found one that was free in the end with a limitation of 1 shared port which was enough for my usb headset) but in the end it was just to fiddly for me compared to actually just setting up a traditional desktop environment to game in.

Yep, most of the time i use discort with my friends. Otherwise i also go to my desktop if i want to teamplay with randoms. Sad steam will not look into this problem...
I have spoken to steam customer service directly about this and they dont seem to acknowledge the issue due to the variations in drivers and hardware configurations people have.

For me personally I have seen enough comments regarding this issue in the forums to warrant steam to look into this more deeply as I do not believe the problem lies with the users setup.

If anyone has this working properly please drop us a line.

Jay,
I skimmed the thread, I want to stream using twitch, but I'm playing on my TV like 30 meters from my computer, how do I add voice to my stream? What are my options for that?
I have connected my wireless headset via an USB dongle to the steam link. Sound works great.
The microphone seems to be recognized by the steam link: in the settings of the steam link the input level shows a reaction when I talk.
In windows the microphone source is "steam streaming microphone".
But in windows voice recorder I can't record my voice over steam link (and in game it doesn't work either).
