Some of you may know the tale of the legendary 'coming soon™' gamemode, the one every BaseWars server owner knows about, but nobody truly believes exists.

I mentioned before that Hexahedron's BaseWars server would be replaced by the new gamemode, that hasn't happened yet, this server is still running on our testing server with many fewer resources (of which I am currently setting the slots to 20 on) and this will continue to be the case for the short-term future of the gamemode.

Currently, the gamemode is in the Alpha stage, this means it is playable, the most basic core features are complete and unlikely to receive major changes in mechanics, but not all 'core' features are there.

Currently, from our skew of core features, we have the following in comparison to the old gamemode:

• A base claiming system, in pre-designated areas
  
• Entity health and damage control for all entities
  
• A spawnmenu, buying and selling
  
• Multiple raids at the same time, with reduced restrictions
  
• A more advanced faction system with a hierarchy and rejoining mechanics
  
• User interfaces for all of the above
  
• Scanning bases (partially)
  
• A much more optimised power system with vastly increased TPS and FPS

But this isn't everything, with the core features planned to include, on top of what I've already mentioned:

• Proper faction management with admin/owner controls
  
• Custom weapons with unique effects and mechanics
  
• A redesigned drug system with effect combining and manufacturing
  
• Per client, clientside languages
  
• More interactive entities, with many returning from pre-2013 Basewars

And alongside this, the following extensions, things that will be in the gamemode but can easily be changed around:

• Several web-based features including permanent factions and management
  
• A marketplace and advanced systems for the printers
  
• PVE content including daily objectives
  
• An in-game tutorial and 'state' system allowing for separation of players using it

And, even FURTHER, a complete remake of our admin mod, chat, scoreboard, miscellaneous scripts, etc. Some of this is already complete, with the new admin mod already having more features than the old one, despite being incomplete (and you might have seen nametags/coh v2 floating around).

Around now, you might be saying:
Holy shit, that's a lot of feature creep, you're not going to get anything done.

And while at first glance you may be correct, we have already achieved a lot more than the entirety of the old gamemode combined. Here are some screenshots:

But if so much is done? Why is it alpha 1?
Because there is a lot of important things that are missing due to time constraints for myself at the moment, such as:

• Dispensers, no ammo, health or armor
  
• Upgrades / building XP, everything is level 0 XP 0 always
  
• Player XP and levels, this is more of a conceptual thing, I plan to make XP given for being active and interacting, not idling printers, currently it isn't used for anything so it doesn't matter anyway
  
• Buggy is an understatement of gargantuan proportions

But you see, the thing is, that bugs are hard to find when the only people on the server are 3-5 developers/friends of developers, with 1-2 bases, no raiding, and 1 faction if you are lucky, we need people to break it so that we can make sure it's ready to be continued to be worked on.

Basewars 2018 will not be released for other servers while it bears any burden of an alpha branding, and will not be for sale even when it shows only a well-worn brand of being a beta. The following is how the new gamemode will be distributed across servers:

• Alpha and the first month of beta: Hexahedron exclusively
  
• Extended beta, long-term feature development: Hexahedron, potentially 2-3 other servers
  
• Release, no known bugs, mostly complete: Hexahedron, a range of about 3-5 other servers

With the current gamemode being sold en masse this may come as a surprise, but if you, like myself, spend time hopping around these servers, you'll have realised by now that the current gamemode is saturated, boring, uninspired and exploited, so we will be containing the new one, those who request a copy will be manually scrutinised and MUST bring something new to the board.

We are making MASSIVE changes to our website, our staff heirarchy and how VIP works among other things, alongside this MASSIVE optimizations have been made, alongside prot_2 this should practically eliminate all lag and crashing at all.

Wardrobe now has bodygroup support and new content such as a prestiege system is in the works.

Soon applications will be opening for developer positions and helper / moderator positions so keep an eye out for that!
