Wizardry: Proving Grounds of the Mad Overlord remake patched -now with full kb/mouse support
...and other quality of life features/changes. I'd been waiting a bit on the fence on this one until it was a little more polished up, and I can say that the changes in the just-released patch go a long way towards this. Feels great to play now!

I thought it was cool. I saw a review on the game that made me wonder what the remake could have been like if there were more creative liberties.

The reviewer pointed out that for veterans it is the exact same game they played, but for new players it is a game they don't want to play.

People are always hesitant and against changing the source material, but I think if they made some crazy changes it would be a good thing. It is already a different game, and the original will always exist. Imagine you are playing Wizardry and there are new things to look forward to?
Agreed, and I think that a year from now which is their estimated date of leaving early access, it may be just that. So far I’ve liked the changes, like giving the classic back-row thief something to do by attempting to study unknown enemies, which in turn builds out a bestiary that exposes things like lore, enemy weaknesses, etc. Things like that and other tedium removers, quality of life upgrades, and the ability to toggle the really brutal elements like multiple level-drains could go a long way towards helping new people I to the fold while also respecting the time and patience level of older gamers such as myself. Will be interesting to watch!

i finished the new one. i enjoyed it for the most part and am glad i got to play it, but i would not yet recommend it to most people due to the frustration. there is an actively saved, ongoing file for your game. if the party dies, you can't reload. they are dead, and you are forced to remake a new party (or at least one character) to level back up to maybe retrieve the other one. there are ways to get around the party deaths and such. you can pull that save file out and copy it. if the party dies, you can put the copied file back in over the current save to restore before the party death.

They’ve actually added a lot of quality of life features recently - multiple save slots, the ability to restore drained levels, hirelings, and more. They are mostly optional, for the benefit of purists, but very helpful to new players.

To be clear, the save slots still work the same way in that you have no control over saving or reloading. They are just slots that are automatically saved per game, so you can have five consecutive games going. You still can't choose to save before a fight then reload if it goes (edit: badly). Party just dies and you start back in town having to start a new party.

You could always have an option of Classic VS Modern where Classic is the old unchanged version and Modern is a rebalanced smoother, faster less frustrating version.

And if it's a choice I'd rather have a Modern experience that's easier just to get more people into these games than a harder experience that I can play in all the other iterations of the game.
