Windows 7/8/8.1 downgrades + more
I recently made a guide where I shared information about prolonging the usage of Steam on soon-to-be unsupported operating systems. Do note that no action is required until December.

Also, with it I included a new downgrading procedure that is quick and automatic, making the updater download the manifest and packages from a custom location and doing everything on its own.

You can find it here:

awesome, I'm sure we'll be reading this and trying to apply it to windows 10 within the year.

We need more hands on this, super critical! :brakes_problem:

The guide is gone. Valve manually filtered almost all URLs in the guide. I will keep working on it, but be aware that it most likely isn't going to be hosted on Steam any longer.

Never mind, it was seemingly just a server fault.

Why not try to make a similar guide, but for Windows XP and for Vista, so that Steam would have the old library and interface?

Because those version can't connect since sometime in 2020.

I think, if you wish, you can compile the files in a certain way and make it possible to join from the old version, especially since on the Russian forum I came across a person who managed to do this through some tricks

Steam client is closed source. It isn't so simple. Theoretically it's possible, but I'd be pretty shocked if it came to reality.

I understand, however, I think it’s worth trying to find those who are ready to implement this idea, because I think that there are quite a lot of fans of the old Steam interface and old versions of Windows like me

If you can get the Russian guy to write a guide on how he manages to get the old Steam working, I can see about translating and testing it.
