Final Fantasy V Music Replacement
So i´ve been reading these forums and noticed that no one has attempted to replace the soundtrack.

With hex editing i managed to take a WAV file (ogg file also work as far as i know) put the header of onde of those .dat in the wav folder files and it kinda works.

The header of every music file starts with "mtsx" and the rest of the offset contains looping information that i don´t how to interpret. Because of that i took the overworld theme from dissida converted it to a WAV file then slapped the header of the file "snd0_4.dat" (which is the overworld theme) changed the file from .WAV to .DAT and there you go

The only problem is changing the loop for the other files as i have no coding knowledge i was wondering if anyone here could have a go at it

Here´s the link for the music i replaced if anyone wants to try it out: http://www98.zippyshare.com/v/tggBchBU/file.html

Place it on : Final Fantasy V/resources/wav

Is there a reason that you would want to? The music has been restored to its original form.

That´s what i´m trying to find out

I believe I do have knowledge of how this music might be looped. I'd love to download the files, and see if I can get it work. But it looks like the files you uploaded on zippyshare got taken down, or expired, or something.

I hope you're still around, I'm really interested in experimenting with this.

Here you go this replaces the overworld theme "four hearts" with the dissidia one, i didn´t change the loop information so the music cuts off abruptly

when I did the FFIV SNES music mod I figured out the header format to make it loop correctly. #5 post has the format. It might be the same or at least similar. https://steamcommunity.com/app/312750/discussions/0/613937306627860884/

This is proving to be a bit more difficult than I originally expected it to be. But I'm not ready to give up yet.

From poking around in these music files, I've discovered that the way these remastered music tracks might best be looped would be a combination of cutting them down from the end, to the exact point where you would want the loop to end, and then modify the mtsx data to get the music to restart from the right place after reaching the end.

From my tests, this does seem to be exactly how the original music tracks work. However, I'm sure there's more to it than this, as attempting to edit music so that it loops properly when you can only see the end of the file is very difficult, at least for me.

(I've managed to get the remastered track of Four Heroes to *almost* loop perfectly, though in all my editing, I've been unable to prevent there from being a slight click when the music loops)

Of course, there's also the fact that if you knew the hex format, you could likely make the loop start position closer to exactly where it should be, so the loop is less obvious.

Maybe all this that I've figured out is basic knowledge.. But for someone who doesn't consider himself to be particularly skilled at hacking, I find all this very interesting. As I said before, I'm not ready to give up yet, but I do feel the need to at least give an update on my progress.
(And perhaps encourage someone else to comment who might know more about this..? :P)

Huh can you send me what you did ? i'm actually trying things the hard way ( changing the Hex values of the Header), maybe i could find out something i dunno...

I do have quite a few files, as I saved pretty much every slight bit of progress I made. But this file here is probably the closest I've gotten to a seemless loop - {LINK USUNIĘTY} (Using the remastered version, not the dissidia version)

I also have another file I've been screwing around with recently, where I've been trying to put the end point closer to where it loops in the original file, but I've been having more trouble getting the hex to loop from that point.

1. you need to find the index for start loop and end loop in samples (program like audacity)
2. convert the numbers to hexadecimal (if it isn't already)
2a. iirc it should be little-endian format so ex. 1643 (dec) -> 066B (hex) -> 6B06
3. replace in the header
4. there might be other metadata like file size you need to change as well

Moved thread to FFV Subforum, for easier coolaboration.

Let's say one would try to change the FFV Boss battle theme
for the FFVI Boss battle theme instead,

How to achieve it?

Well since the remakes of FF1,2,3 and 4 got music remasters i thought ff5 should get a similar treatment. There are already some tracks on youtube

Also for FF6

I personally do not like many of these tracks. I just dont feel it so to speak. The Dissidia tracks are much better imo

I like this. I definitely have nostalgia for the original SNES soundtrack but the range is so limited, the quality even in the youtube links is a lot better. EQ has a lot more meat to it. Subscribing, interested to know when this is done, might actually buy the game on PC.
