How could one go about making an "Auto-Battle" mod?

I really want to make a mod that basically includes the PSP version's Auto-Battle, it basically auto selects the action (either attack or whatever you did last if cursor is set to memory) and doubles the animation speed while active. In the PSP version it is toggled by the "Select" button, does anyone have any insight or can point me in the right direction to accomplish creating this mod?

Well if it helps. There is a file called "Auto.NCGR" in the FF3 files section. You can use gimp and you will see. Thats what you probably need to change. i cant do it for whatever reason since it crashed my game. I dont have photoshop to do it directly. But just a suggestion incase someone wanna try it
