Final Fantasy IX (VANILLA)
Introduction:

The mod we've all been waiting for, how infuriating that they kept all the android features in their PC port of this classic roleplaying game. Now finally you can experience the prettiest Final Fantasy game from the PS1 era on PC as it was meant to be experienced, in the future this might be updated to include a rearranged UI. All credit goes to Albeoris for making this patch possible with his Memoria program.

Features:

•Removes android chat icons.
•Fixes battle encounter rate.
•New font.
•Disables cheats.
•Better controller support.
•Better sound quality.
•Fixes various bugs.

Interesting, so basically this is the vanilla PS1 original version ?
Dan Lel Nov 5, 2017 @ 11:45am
Memoria and instructions are provided in the download, yes most of the android features have been removed and the encounter rate raised to resemble the original game more.

Besides the battle UI the difficulty of this game is something that could be improved. This morning I went over all the bosses, excluding the optional bosses and buffed them a bit. But not to absurd degrees, the game should still be playable for someone who plays through it the first time, it's just a bit harder. I'm not a scripter and I've not managed to change the abilities of bosses in hades workshop so if anyone wants to help out with implementing these changes into the vanilla mod that would be great. I suppose how you would install this is, first patching the game with memoria then overwrite some file with the modded enemies file from memoria. Or maybe it's not possible to change any of this yet?

In either case this is here for future reference.

Masked man - remain
King Leo - remain
Steiner - remain
Prison cage - remain
Baku - remain
Plant Brain - remain

Black Waltz 1
This boss is fine but it becomes a bit too easy if you focus the black waltz. Increasing the black waltz hp by 100 is going to force you to be stacked up on some healing to survive this. His default hp is 299.

Black Waltz 2 - remain

Black Waltz 3
This is the final bad mage and a major obstacle before Lindblum. He uses thundara, blizzara, fira and if you physically attack him he does thundara on the entire party. Therefore we exchange one of his spells with the white magic berserk, berserk is going to trigger his thundara and make the battle harder.

Gizamaluke
This battle is fine but you can easily break him with silence or blind status effects. Make him immune to silence and blind and the battle will be harder.

Beatrix - remain

Ralvurahva
This worm is quite annoying already with his devil's kiss, string and night. But his blizzara is fairly weak, I suggest we change it for Earthquake which does earth damage to all party members.

Black Waltz 3 2nd Round - remain

Antlion
This boss at Cleyra is fairly easy, because you've picked up the ice staff and learned blizzara which is effective against the antlion and even if he uses sandstorm he has no effective way of taking out more than one party member. He counters with "counter horn" whenever he is attacked by a physical attack. To beef this guy up a bit I suggest we make him immune to silence and sleep and have him counter with "counter horn" even if he is attacked by magic.

Beatrix second round - remain

Zorn Thorn
This boss fight ends whenever one of them is killed, so I suggest we simply increase their hp by 25%. Unless the spell they charge up to is so powerful it automatically kills the entire party. If that's the case we leave them as they are.

Beatrix final round - remain

Ralvuimahgo
This boss battle is easy if you don't attack the worm when he is curled up in a defensive posture. Which you quickly will learn not to do, so we exchange one of his spells for "buzz" or "berserk". Then a party member is going to be forced to attack the worm when he is curled up and trigger his powerful abilities unless cured of berserk or killed.

Lani
She uses a pointless ability in this battle, scan. This one can be removed entirely. Slow and blind would also make her waste turns missing or just being slow so make her immune to those.

Armodullahan - remain

Hilgigars
Make this giant immune to slow and change his hp from 8106 to 10 000.

Soulcage
Remove the undead status from him, a boss shouldn't die from a life spell. His LV5 death spell is also usually pointless, it's better to exchange this spell for Death which will ensure death.

Scarlet Hair - remain

Ark
This is one of the harder bosses in the game but clearheaded and a completely physical team is going to make short work of him. A minor buff to his hp is going to make this a bit harder, from 20 000 hp to 23 000 hp.

Valia Pira - remain
Meltigemini - remain

Taharka
Just make it immune to silence and sleep and it will be more difficult.

Earth Guardian
You fight this guy with Zidane and Quina, and most of the damage is usually done by zidane. I suggest exchanging blizzaga/thundaga/firaga with bad breath. A silenced quina or a blinded zidane is going to make this more difficult.

Silver Dragon - remain

Garland
This guy is way too easy, he is vulnurable to silence, darkness and slow so let's make him immune to those. Psychokinesis is his default attack let's exchange this for blue shockwave which will decrease a single target's hp to 1.

Kuja - remain

Nova Dragon
This dragon has a lot of attacks that do damage but few which protects him from taking damage. He counters when physically attacked, I suggest changing psychokinesis for "reflect". If he has reflect on himself he is going to be way more difficult.

Maliris - remain
Tiamat - remain
Kraken - remain
Lich - remain

Deathguise
Just exchange LV5 Death with death.

Trance Kuja
This is the final baddie, I suggest we exchange his flare spell for Meteor Counter which makes him counter with meteor whenever he is attacked. That is going to make this battle a bit more difficult.

Necron - remain

Awesome, now if only I could use this and Alternative Fantasy at the same time...

That would void the purpose of this altogether, would it not; would. [/quote]
no?

This mod is not compatible with any mod that changes the game from what it was into something else. This mod is only meant to restore the game to it's former glory and possibly make the bosses a bit more challenging but without forcing the player to grind for levels. We don't want fan fiction in this, e.g changing the music for some other game's music, change the font or hud into something that isn't appropiate for the setting etc.

Hmm try to contain the autism, when I say we I'm speaking of people who just want a vanilla mod, a mod that restores the game to it's original state or improves upon what's obviously broken.

I thought the launcher art was a bit too anime looking, kinda gross. But you're right that users of memoria change whatever they feel needs changing. It wouldn't be too hard for someone to do what I've done with this. But why should they, just download the folder and it's all done for you.
Nyx Dec 23, 2017 @ 11:09pm
perfect ! Thank you ! any way we could get psx buttons and rescaled UI with that?? Also, will it ever be compatible with backgound mods like Fraggosso's one?
Dan Lel Dec 26, 2017 @ 10:30am
When Albeoris completes the UI thingy he's working on I'll be sure to add it to this thread for easy access. I noticed that Fraggosso's backgrounds mod made the backgrounds look smoother but a lot of details were also lost, gave the game a cartoony look. Best thing to do is to just run the game at a resolution that is closer to the resolutions the backgrounds are at.

I think the backgrounds are 640x480 pixels so just run the game at 800x600 and the 3d models will blend better with the backgrounds. These games are never going to look great at high resolutions.

This include the corrections of sound effects ( the missing monsters death sound at least)?
Can I use de Sounds Fix patch with this?
Dan Lel Dec 29, 2017 @ 9:39am
If by sound fix patch you mean the sound quality being of a greater quality, yes that comes with albeoris mod. I'm not sure about missing sound effects, I'm pretty sure that's fixed too and if not let me know.

Dwight that's not a fix that's you replacing the original sounds by other stuff, there's a difference. Oh and don't put that stuff in here, this mod isn't about replacing stuff with dwight's favorite music from other games. ;)
Dan Lel Jan 4, 2018 @ 4:34pm
I'm not even on steam everyday, I just respond to notifications from this thread I haven't touched this for months. But it's quite nice if you're in need of a dose of some autism, just check your steam notifications on FF9 mods. ;)
