PC culture in gaming
Censorship because it might affect inclusivity, whatever that means.

World's gone mad.

''On the absence of political symbols

Hey everyone,

we've decided to merge the topics here discussing the absence of political symbols in Commandos 2 HD Remaster.

If you'd like to contribute something, please post in this thread. Thank you!

Our statement:

We have consciously decided to release only one global version of Commandos 2 HD Remaster, one which as far as possible avoids the use of political symbols such as Swastika or SS-runes. We do not want to encourage racism, discrimination or exclusion with our games. As a cosmopolitan but German company, we see it as our duty to refrain from any kind of radical symbolism.

We really do not believe that avoiding extreme political symbols diminishes the fun or authenticity of our games and we feel that this attitude is supported by a large part of our community.

We know that this decision won’t be shared and agreed upon by everyone and we appreciate your own opinions, but hope that you can accept our standpoint.''

Never mind the fact that GOG has a better version and there's no laws saying you can't showcase Nazi symbols in a negative fashion.

I've already been banned from that steam forum. I asked how many gamers were radicalized by seeing the symbol in the older commando's games and felt excluded. And made a comment that communists/marxists are very good at changing history. This is what marxistic globalistic propaganda does to your brain. Perhaps they should place black people among the nazi's because there is a serious lack of diversity there.

This happens because of business reasons, and not the PC reasons you may expect.

The last thing most studios want is for their product to become a dogwhistle or community hub for nazis, etc. It's rare, but it does happen, like with Paradox's issues with white supremacists. Is having swastikas in your game going to cause that? Not likely, but sometimes negative portrayals of bad shit end up getting adopted by the same bad shit they're portraying. Even that remote possibility doesn't line up in the economic risk-reward calculus.

No one's saying you shouldn't discuss terrible shit that's happened before. It's a German company, and Germany makes a point to own what happened during the holocaust. They're not saying it didn't happen. They're not saying you shouldn't make documentaries and put it in textbooks. They don't want it in their game.

Publishers cropping out art assets in an attempt to mute any misattributed signaling isn't PC culture; it's a the free market safeguarding its interests from racist bozos.

The problem here is that Commandos is a game about KILLING nazis. You're not going to get anywhere in commandos if you don't kill Nazi's. Removing stuff because you are afraid Nazi's will like it just gives the Nazi's actual power and reputation. Whens the last time a publisher removed an unfinished buggy game that they were making a profit off of because they were afraid gamers would be pissed or that a minority group that isn't hated might use it as their symbol?

If people are that afraid of Nazi's because they might like something or use it as their symbol then we are fucked as a society. We literally can't do anything because Nazi's might use it as their symbol. Hell I can't even post this comment or talk on steam forums because hey, Nazi's might be using this platform as they speak (I mean millions use this platform, clearly at least one might be a Nazi and because a small group can dictate everything we do, we must shutdown steam forums).

Germany by law has allowed the Nazi symbols to be used. They only ban negative portrayals. If Wolfenstien can get away with having Nazi symbols, commandos sure as hell is going to be allowed to do it. If this company didn't want Nazi's in their game, then they shouldn't have remastered Commandoes and just made their own game about killing zombies or something. Oh and they should probably take their games off GOG too. You know the ones that still have Nazi symbols in them.

By definition, removing things that aren't politically correct is politically correct and is PC culture. Why the hell do you need to spite the entirety of your fanbase and the market who don't want censored products, because 0.1% might be racist?
It's a German company obeying German law. Ban on showing fascist symbols is thing in ex-fascist countries.
