Warlock 2: The Exiled - review inside.
OH SNAP.... for all you mac gamers out there... Warlock2: The Exiled with expansions is officially MAC/LINUX ported. That's right, it now plays on your MAC and Linux machines.
Hurray for them.

For those that saw 4 threads.. your eyes were deciving you.. it never happened. You hear me.. never happened.

I could never get into Warlock 1, it felt too much like a re-skin of Civilization V, a game which I do not particularly enjoy as much as other games.
Nasarog Oct 21, 2014 @ 4:30pm
Really? It has a lot of snark, that's always a positive in my book. I'll probably do a write-up of Warlock 2: The exiled.

Yeah, I downloaded a copy of Warlock - Master of the Arcane when GoG was giving it away for free. I played it for about an hour and never revisited it. It just felt too familiar and uninspired. I've read that the second one is even more uninspiring, being more like a Warlock 1.5 instead of a second game, is there any truth to what I have been reading?
Nasarog Oct 21, 2014 @ 5:04pm
Maybe. I loved Warlock 1, but Warlock 2 is more like 1.5, the way Xcom:EW is Xcom:EU + and it's a huge plus, but yea.

How are you liking the expansion so far, Nasarog? Is it worth buying?
Nasarog Oct 22, 2014 @ 3:59pm
I will tell you in a couple of days. I'll get a copy and give it a spin over the weekend.

Let me give a quick disclaimer - I loved Warlock 1, even with it's shortcomings. I always PvE, so it was a blast for me. The schizo AI didn't bug me at all. I suspect that W2 is more of the same, actually, I think it's more like W1.5, but right now, the price is such ($20) for th ebase game, that it shouldn't even be an afterthought for most people. If you are hesitating, wait for a sale and pick it up then.

Okay, so once I play it for a bit, I'll wirte up W1 w/ expansions briefly, and spend the rest of the article on W2 w/ expansion.

But from what I can tell, it looks to be good. I'll know for certain within a week.

Well, I got tired of wating for a promised copy, so I just bought my own. I'll first check out the base game, then I'll check out the DLC and then I'll get the expansion. I'll do a co-review (written and podcast style) of the game in a couple of weeks. I'll update this thread, but I like to take my time.

on edit: instead of doing another post I'll just post my first impression here.

So, I fire up steam, and there is an announcement from warlock2:wrathof the nagas available.. I watch the trailer, which is very funny, as usual, and for some reason, I read it as Wrath of the Nalgas". If you speak spanish, you know where this is going... the deep voiced reviewer with his script isn't helping... so yea, I laughed a good long while.

Well, now you know they're finally going to get back to me today since you did that ;)

Ye, probably. Tell them I'll take the dlc and the expansion since I went out and bought a copy. :p

seems like a pretty cool game really. Took me 50 turns to get the hang of it, but damn, I gotta say the AI is beyond stupid! ... but at least its leaving me laughing. Theres something comical about a rat king speaking(yes theres voice overs) in a very unintelligent manner while freaking out that you made a demand, in the same turn he just gifted you a ton of stuff, declaring war.... then giving the rest of his stuff the very next turn for peace....
sound confusing? it was for me, as it all kinda happened simulatiously and I had to think for a sec to realize what had happened.

Yea, like I said, PvE. Play at the highest difficulty and have fun. In Warlock one with the Dremmer expansion, the AI opponents undertood the Dremmer threat and made actual alliances, I mean full blown alliances with you. I had never had something like that happen to me in CIV... and in CIV, the diplomatic AI needed to be medicated no matter what.

ya... i feel that smarter, and better yet 'interesting' AI make for a much better experience in 4x games. They can really do with some more interactivity between the different empires and yet I feel its the commonly a thing brushed over in most titles :(

Yes. That's one of the weaknesses of 4x games. AI. That's why no matter where you look, you'll see similar complaints. CHeck out the AI article (shameless plug) that Marlowe wrote on our website. He also started a thread here about it. If you are curious to get his 2 cents, ask hi about it. We'll be doing a Podcast about AI soon.
